Chapter Five Maureen invited her to dinner, one with candlelight and chilling wine, lentil soup, a salad and her very favorite dessert—an apple baked in pastry floating in caramel sauce. They hadn’t seen each other since early Monday morning, long before her week’s odyssey began. “I’ve missed you,” Mo said, greeting her with a generous hug and a peck on the cheek. Sophie lingered on her shoulder, hugging her much longer than was natural for the two. “Is something wrong?” she asked pulling gently away. “No, I don’t think anything is wrong. It just feels as though I’m swimming through my life right now.” They drank two glasses of chilled Chardonnay before they sat at the small dining table in Maureen’s loft and began to eat. “The photo shoots?” “Maybe.” “What do you mean maybe?
