Melissa
I hear the sound of the door opening and see Ms. Elisa entering. My mother is forty years old and doesn't even look it. She is a beautiful woman and since my father died, she has never dated again, I don't think. Although she has every right to fall in love again. I always tell her that she has to find a decent guy.
— Hi, mom, how are you? — I greet, going towards her, who hugs me tightly in her arms.
— Yes, daughter. How are you? — She asks, letting go of me and leaving her bag on the sofa.
- Good too. I'm going to make dinner, I ended up getting distracted by school things and ended up forgetting.
— Calm down, daughter, I’ll help you. I'm just going to take off these clothes and I'll be right back — she says, heading towards the bedroom at the very least she'll change.
I was actually doing school homework, but I was distracted thinking about Edu and everything that happened. I look at the kitchen clock and see that it's past eight. Wow, Edu could have contacted me.
—- Daughter, is there something troubling you? — I was startled to hear my mother's voice right next to me. She looks at me intently.
— No, mom — I answer quickly. My mother certainly didn't believe my answer, because she continues to analyze me. But for now, it's better this way, I still wouldn't even know what and how to tell her that I'm interested in a much older man and who, on top of that, is my teacher.
— What would you like to make for dinner? — my mother asks.
— Whatever you want.
The kitchen is well equipped, with everything that was modern at the time. My father made a point of buying the best everything since mom always loved cooking for us. She must definitely miss him. I don't always bring up the subject because I know she still feels love for him, even though it's been a few years. My mother deserved to find someone in her life, to be her companion.
— Mel, how is school? You didn't even mention anything about the new teacher — you do and I'm surprised she remembers I talked about it. — Mel, you are very distracted, daughter.
— Sorry, mom, I really was. So, he is very good at teaching, the students fell over him.
— Seriously, why?
— Oh, mom, he's a handsome man and the girls hit on him — I reply with a shrug. As if I hadn't done the same thing, the difference is that I had tasted his kiss, his touch.
— Didn't you do it too? — my mother asks, curious, still analyzing me. Her eagle gaze captures my every movement, every expression and I'm sure she noticed something, because she narrows her eyes. I need to convince her otherwise.
— No, mom, he's very annoying — I say with a tone of disgust.
— Ah, Mel, that's how it is — she says, laughing. I look at my mother and notice that even she would be a better match for dating Edu. My mother is a beautiful woman.
— Mom, he’s too annoying — I emphasize with a straight face.
— -Daughter, you really don't like this teacher — she concludes, and moves on to another topic while we prepare the oven-baked rice, with the pickled potato salad that she had made the day before. We sat down to dinner and I told her about the school and she about the hospital, which has a new director.
— Seriously, mom, what's he like? — Now I'm curious.
— A normal man. -— She deviates from the subject, without wanting to give too much information and I know that she has just told a big lie. But I don't want to force the situation, I know she doesn't want to say anything. So we sealed a banner of peace, since I know she didn't believe Edu at all either.
We finish dinner, tidy up the kitchen and she invites me to watch TV. I pick up my cell phone and notice once again that Edu didn't send any messages and I decide to let it go, he said he was with his mother and I want to believe it's true. One thing my mother and I always do when she's at home is stay on the couch, relaxed, watching whatever nonsense is on. After watching the newspaper and soap opera, we decided it was time to sleep.
- Good night daughter.
- Good night mom. Are you home tomorrow?
— Yes, daughter, I'm off work — she says, kissing me on the forehead and then heading to her room.
