"We're fine!" Ruth answered preemptively.
Daniel smiled and nodded."Yes, phased."
Lisa stood up, a little agitated, "So you guys aren't together?"
"Absolutely not!"
"NO!"
The two men said the words almost in unison.
Lisa sat down helplessly and shook her head.
"Okay."It seems Ruth's dreams are doomed to be shattered.
Lisa threw a pitying look at Ruth, yet Ruth looked up and grinned at Lisa, not looking the least bit sad or upset.
Lisa realized she had underestimated her best friend. Wouldn't Ruth be defeated by a man's refusal?
She shifted her gaze across the table to Daniel; the other woman's eyes lowered as she drank, looking bleak and unsure of what she was thinking.
