Chapter 4

Cameron's POV: The week went by pretty quick actually. I haven't seen or heard from Clayton since that day on the sidewalk. At first, it really angered me. All it did was bring up all my past memories of all the guys ditching me. I had woken up in the middle of the night for some reason that I don't know. I felt like I was being watched and I was a little creeped out. Even though I know no one was in my room or could see me, I still got up and closed my window and curtain. That's when I felt my period start. I quickly got into the bathroom and got a pad in my panties before I ruined them and crawled back into bed. My period was really heavy this time around, so much so that yesterday seems to have been the last day for it. I no longer care if I see Clayton again. I've moved on. That doesn't mean I want to talk to him ever again because he was no different than any other guy I have met in the last few years. I had training I needed to do at the office before my official day next week so that took up most of the day. It was boring though. A lot of videos I had to watch and then these online trainings. They really did take almost three days on their own to complete. Then these last two days of the week I was a shadow. I had to follow another worker around so I could see what all was done. So basically I have to deliver the daily mail, collect inner office envelopes and drop them off twice a day. Once in the morning and once in the afternoon. I also will have to do all the filing for all the offices on that floor which will take up most of my day. At lunch, I have to collect everyone's orders in the kitchen and then deliver them to the workers. Depending on how late they are working, there may be another delivery later in the evening. All of these tasks will depend on what time I am there and working since I will be in school. The floor I will be working on is the 14th floor of the building. Today, the person I am following around is working until eight in the evening which means we will be delivering the dinner orders. "Here, you can take the orders up since you saw how it was done yesterday for lunch." She told me. I actually didn't catch her name. I think she told me but I wasn't really paying attention. My mind has just been on a lot of things right now with college starting up soon and my job. I need to put my full attention into that instead. "Okay," I said and nodded my head as I took the cart and went over to the counter that had all the orders laid out on it. They were tagged with numbers and each cubical had a number. Then you had the actual lawyer offices and those had door numbers on them but they don't usually work this late. So far everything seems like it will be pretty easy to do. I don't really have to think all that much which is nice since I will be thinking more than enough at school. I don't want to get too drained during all of this. I gather up all of the containers of sandwiches, salads, and desserts and put them on the cart in number order. Once I was done I looked around for the lady that I was following and she was gone. I guess she really did mean I was doing this one alone. I just shrugged and started to push the two-level cart across the tile towards the elevators. The kitchen and cafeteria and employee lounge are actually on the basement level. I'm not really sure why but I guess it doesn't really matter. At least there's an elevator. I push the cart till I get into the faculty elevator and I move around it so I can get to the buttons on the side. I pushed the 14th floor and the doors started to close. Suddenly a hand went between the doors and stopped them and they opened back up. Slowly making his way in, giving me that sexy devilish look, Clayton walks into the elevator. I glare at him and just hit the button again for the doors to close. I put my arms over my chest and stand there looking away from him. "I'm sorry." I heard him say. "Doesn't matter," I told him with a little anger. "I wasn't intending...." He started to say but I quickly cut him off. "Save it for someone who actually cares." I snapped as I looked over at him. "What do you want anyway? Obviously, you had changed your mind about me that day so why don't you just go about your day and leave me alone." I said to him as I looked into his grey eyes but had to look away quickly before they made me want something that I'm trying to avoid at the moment. "I wanted to take you out tonight." He said to me and I turned to face him. "And what makes you think I'm going to give you a second try?" I asked. "I don't, actually." He said. "Well as you can see, I can't. I'm working." I told him which didn't really tell him that I didn't want to, just couldn't at the time. The elevator dinged to let us know that we reached our destination. The doors opened and I pushed the cart out and started to walk down the hallways to the large room full of cubicles. The people here really don't notice you as you walk around dropping the food off. They are too busy on the phones or typing on their computers. I start at the beginning and start dropping off the food. You can't even get a thank you or a nod from these people. You are that invisible to them. "Please, Cam, one more chance. I won't let you down." He said to me as we were walking through the room. "Why are you still following me?" I snapped at him and I stopped pushing the cart and turned to look at him. "Because I'm not one to take no for an answer?" He said and lifted the corner of his lip, causing me to feel my heart beat a little faster. I looked up into his eyes and I just felt like I couldn't tell him no. I loved the way his eyes looked at me, the way his lips looked. I wanted to kiss him so bad. "Fine. Tomorrow night at seven and you better show up this time and not be late." I told him and he nodded. "Seven it is." He said with a smile that caused me to smile back at him. I just can't help myself. There's just something about him that makes me want to be with him. Maybe it's fate pulling us together. Love at first sight as some call it. I don't know but I just feel that I need to give him that second chance for reasons I can't explain. We continued to casual talk as we walked around and delivered the remaining food. It's not like anyone really cares, they probably don't even know that he is with me. Or that their food has been dropped off. The lawyers had all went home for the night so there weren't any of them in the offices to deliver to. There also weren't as many who stayed over either which made this go a lot faster than it did yesterday during lunch. Clayton had left after I delivered all the food so I could finish up with the evening work that I was learning. I went to the basement where the employee lounge is and got my purse from my locker. I headed out of the building and started my walk home. Usually, there are more people walking the streets at this time which is why I wasn't too worried about walking home in the evening but for some reason, there is like no one out tonight. It was actually rather eerie and unnerving. The air was a little brisk and the sky had no moon making it feel even darker even though the street lights were on. I rubbed my arms to warm them up and quickened my pace. I never saw what it was but suddenly I felt this hard push on my side. I yelped from the sudden force as my body tumbled over to the side and into an alley. I was shoved up against the brick wall of the building behind me with some man's hand around my throat. I looked to the side when I felt the metal of a gun pressing on the side of my head. I looked back over at him and he had a mask over the top half of his face so I couldn't see what he looked like. I could see that he was a big man, probably well over six feet tall and hefty in size. "Your awfully pretty to be walking the streets alone." He said and I could smell the cigarettes and alcohol on his breath. He lifted his hand till it was right under my chin and he turned my head to the opposite side the gun was on. He leaned in real close to me and I could feel his breath heating the side of my face. "Maybe I will have a little fun with you before I take your money." He said and ran his nasty tongue along the side of my cheek. I could feel the tears filling my eyes as he squeezed a little tighter around my neck, causing it to be harder to breathe. He took his gun away and put it somewhere that I couldn't see. His hand that is now free of the gun grabbed my breast and squeezed and I tried to scream out. I took my hands and shoved his hand away and tried to scratch and dig at his face. He released his grip just long enough to hit me on the side of the face which knocked me down onto the ground. "A feisty bitch." He said excitedly. I felt him grab my body and flip me over onto my back and I started to scream and fight him off of me. He hit me again, causing me to feel dizzy from the impact and this metallic flavor filled my mouth. I spit out the blood just when he was ripped off of me with ease. I looked up in the direction of where he was but my vision seemed to be getting darker. All I saw before everything went back was a tall figure with red eyes biting at the man's neck. --- I slowly start to open my eyes and looked around. I was in my apartment. I sat up quickly on my bed, startled at the location that I was at. My heart was beating so hard that I could feel it in my ears. What did the hell happen? Was that a dream? "Everything okay?" I heard a voice coming into my room. I looked over at who was speaking and it was Clayton walking into the room. "What are you doing here? How did I get here?" I asked in a raised voice. "What do you remember?" He asked me which seemed a little odd. It wasn't really a question I would have thought would be asked but it did make me try to think about what happened. "I don't really know," I answered when I remembered seeing a man with glowing red eyes. There's no way I'm going to say that out loud. He will think I'm nuts! "I found you laying on the ground in the alley. You have a busted lip and a cut on your cheek. I didn't see anyone around so I picked you up and brought you home." He told me. "Did I have my purse?" I asked, remembering that I was attacked probably to be robbed when the man changed his mind on what he was going to do. "No. I didn't see a purse or anything else. Looked like you were mugged." He told me and it made sense to what I was remembering. That second hit must have disoriented me. Causing me to see something that wasn't actually there. "Can I get you anything?" He asked me and I nodded. "Water?" I asked as I started to sit up. He smiled and walked out of the room. I got up and walked into the bathroom and looked at the cut that was now on my cheek that was bruising and my swollen busted lip. Mugged, yeah that is probably what happened. My mom told me I should have taken my car with me but I didn't want to have to spend more money on gas when I could either walk or take the bus. All of which would have saved me money. Now I'm thinking she was probably right. I walked out of the bathroom and into the living area where he was pouring some water into a glass filled with ice. "Here." He said as he handed me the water. "Let me get you some ice to put on that cheek." He said and opened the freezer to get some more ice. He grabbed a towel from the rod in front of the sink and filled it with ice and brought it back over to me. He placed it on my cheek. I hissed in pain and closed my eyes as I reached up to hold it and accidentally touched his hand. His hand felt so cold to my touch but that was probably from getting the ice. He pulled his hand away quickly and took a few steps back as if my touch was embarrassing for him or made him feel uncomfortable. "Thank you," I told him and he just nodded. After a few moments with the ice on my face, I pulled it away and put it in the sink for the ice to melt. I turned around and looked at him. He had his back facing me and he was just slowly looking around. He almost looked a little uncomfortable in here with me. Is that all his problem was? He was shy and going on a date scared him? He didn't seem shy, more confident than anything when I first met him. I walked over to him and put my hand on his shoulder and he turned around and looked down at me. I looked into his gorgeous eyes that seemed so mysterious. Looking into his eyes I couldn't think of anything other than pulling him down to me to kiss me. I wanted to so bad but I was almost too scared to. I felt that we would be moving too fast but when I'm near him I just want him, all of him. "Thank you, for saving me," I told him and a hint of a smile appeared on his lips. "No problem." He said with a short laugh. "What I don't get though, is why were you still there? We agreed on tomorrow night so why would you still be a couple of blocks from my work?" I asked him and his smile disappeared which made me think that there was something more going on than what I thought. "I went to that coffee shop across the street and was walking back when I saw him push you into the alley." He said to me. "But it was a good hour before I got out of work. Plus the time it took me to get ready to leave and then walk down the sidewalk. Why would you sit in a coffee shop for that long?" I asked him and he suddenly started to walk towards me which caused me to step backwards. He didn't say anything to me, he just kept walking until my back hit the wall in the living room. I was feeling nervous and scared with my heart quickly beating. I was scared that I may have made a mistake in thinking that he was a nice man. Now I'm starting to wonder if he is the total opposite and that he really is just here to hurt me. He put his arm up on the wall and leaned into me causing pleasurable excitement to run through my body. He was so close to me and my heart was beating like crazy. It was beating so hard I knew that anyone near me could hear it. I looked up into his eyes but they didn't stay there. They quickly made their way to his lips, those soft kissable lips that I wanted so bad right now to be placed over mine. "You are exquisite." He said as he took his fingers of his other hand and grabbed one of the spirals of my hair and ran them through it. Exquisite? Who uses that word to describe someone? I'm not an artifact or a piece of furniture. I thought to myself but before I could continue with my thoughts he came down and took my lips in with his. At first, they felt chilled but the kiss was more than enough to take my mind off of that. We took turns on who sucked on who's lips. Neither of us was trying to take over or put our tongues in each other's mouths. He pulled away and started to place kisses down my jawline. I turned my head to give him more room and let out a moan of pleasure. Now that he has started this, I don't know if I would be able to stop. I felt excited and aroused and wanted him to continue making me feel this way. He traveled to my neck and started to place more kisses. I felt him pull my head farther to the side so he could continue with his kisses. I sucked in quickly and my eyes opened wide when I felt a sharp pain piercing through my neck. I wanted to scream but for some reason, I just couldn't. I grabbed his hair with my hand and tried to pull him back but it was useless. The pain! It was excruciating! I could feel tears falling down my face as I felt warm liquid running down the side of my neck. What the hell is he doing to me! I cried in my head. I felt like my heart was slowing down and my body felt cold and numb. My legs got weak and gave out on me. He put his arms around my body to keep me from falling and to hold me close to him. Is this what it feels like to die? I no longer had the strength for anything, as if I was falling asleep. My vision faded until everything went black.
