TABITHA
I woke up the next morning to my mother staring down at me. "Tabitha, Sorren is awake, thanks to you he is going to recover albeit slowly " She said, my heart felt so much lighter. I smiled up at my mother, "It wasn't just me who helped him." I said making it well known that I refused to take all the credit. I sat up slowly, and my mother took a seat at the foot of my bed.
"Tabitha, your father told me about the wolf who showed up here last night, who followed you home." Mother started speaking, I knew she would be worried about me. It was very unique for a witch to have a twin flame that wasn't of the same species. "How do you feel about this Tabitha?" She asked me. "Honestly to start, I was worried, mother" I began to explain everything to her that happened between me and Asher that evening. " Asher seems sweet, he just seemed a little worried by the fact I am a witch at the start." I said hoping that she could possibly understand how I was feeling about all of this.
My mother smiled at me, but her smile never quite reached her eyes. "Go see Sorren this morning, he has been asking for you ever since he woke up" Mother said. If I hadn't been sitting during this conversation I would have bolted upright. I wanted to go now but I was in no way ready, I was still in my pajamas, still in my bed and definitely not prepared to go see my best friend. Mother lightly chuckled at my reaction, she always did like Sorren. I think she hoped he would be my twin flame and help run the coven alongside me.
"Get dressed Tabitha, then go see him." Mother instructed before she got up from my bed and made her way out of my room. I took a few breaths, I was excited that Sorren was awake. I knew Rowena, Tobias and Cedric would be too. Rowena and Cedric had been appointed spots on the inner council. They would take their positions alongside me when their parents retired alongside my own. Sorren had been training for this his whole life, his father was my mother's right hand, just like Sorren had always been for me.
I quickly dashed over to my closet and whipped the door open. I grabbed a pair of torn black skinny jeans, a navy blue V-neck t-shirt and my favorite black zip up hoodie. I threw on my clothing choice, stripping my pajamas from my body and tossing them onto my bed. Once I was fully dressed, I quickly did my makeup keeping it simple. I grabbed a pair of socks, my boots and my bag and headed downstairs. I had tossed my purse across my shoulder to free my hands up a little.
When I got to the main level of the house I quickly put the rest of my gear on and headed for the front door. I knew my way to Sorren's place like I knew the back of my hand, his parents had given him the cabin at the back of their property as a birthday present last year. As soon as I was outside and the door was closed behind me, I quickly took off, following the dirt path leading to Sorren's place. It didn't take me long to get there as I stuck to the same route as always and kept my speed even.
I got to Sorren's and had decided to use my spare key to let myself in. I had no idea if he was awake or if he was sleeping so I figured that it would be easier than potentially waking him up. Sorren could be kind of a grump sometimes if he didn't get enough sleep. I fiddled with the door's lock for a few minutes before it opened and I was able to walk in.
"Sorren?" I whispered loudly. I heard a noise coming from the living room that sounded like the television. "Sorren?" I said a little louder as I edged closer to the living room. I peeked my head around the corner of the living room. The television was in fact on, Sorren was laying on the couch and it looked like he was sleeping. I tiptoed across the room trying my best to not let the floorboards squeak too much under my weight. As I got closer to the couch Sorren was sleeping on, I could see that he had one eye open, he had been watching me try and stay quiet so I wouldn't wake him up.
"Tabitha?" He asked sleepily, trying to play it off that he had just woken up. I rolled my eyes at my best friend, he certainly knew how to push my buttons. I flopped down by where his feet were and just glared at him. Sorren sat up, his blanket had fallen down to reveal his bare chest. Sorren was well-toned, he worked out, you could see his muscles under his bronze skin. All of the girls beside Rowena and myself drooled over him, they all wanted him to be their twin flame, they usually ended up broken-hearted when they realized he wasn't interested. Sorren had golden-brown hair that was darker by the roots and got lighter. He usually had it styled but today, it was going everywhere.
He never kept a full beard, but would never let his face go bare either. Sorren preferred a light stubble, like an ongoing five o'clock shadow. With his shirt off I could see the tattoo he had on his chest and shoulder, a tribal mark. Most of us knew about the tattoo, but it had been a while since I had seen it.
"Are you just going to stare at me all day Tabs?" Sorren asked me, smiling. This man always knew how to get under my skin. I started laughing which caused Sorren to chuckle. It felt just like old times, and I had missed those in that moment. With all the uncertainty surrounding everything going on with Willa and the wolf pack, I needed something familiar, something easy, I needed Sorren.
"How are you feeling Sor?" I asked him, this was the important thing. I needed to make sure Sorren would be okay. "Tabs, relax, your sister is good, but she isn't that good. I will be okay." Sorren smirked. He was trying to reassure me that everything was okay, and that he would be alright. I breathed a little sigh of relief. "At least your sense of humor is intact '' I said jokingly. Sorren shook his head, but he was smiling so I knew I had done my job. "So, Tabs, what's new with you?" He asked innocently. The question was a loaded one, I knew I needed to talk to Sorren about Asher.
Finding your twin flame is a huge thing to begin with, it's an even bigger thing when that twin flame turns out to be a Gamma wolf from the pack who was currently hunting my kind. I began to fidget slightly, this was always my telltale sign, when I had something I wanted or needed to say but didn't know how to come right out and say it.
"Tabs, what's wrong? You're doing that nervous wiggle again" Sorren said, pointing to my fingers. I breathed out a heavy sigh, no time like the present I guess. "Well, Sor, something did happen yesterday…" I said trailing off slightly. I took another deep breath, I don't know why this was so difficult for me to say. "I met my twin flame, he is the Gamma wolf of the Dark Woods Pack…" I blurted out. I saw Sorren's facial expression darken, I could tell he definitely wasn't the happiest about this revelation.
Sorren believed the wolves were out of line, he knew Willa since she was little, and he knew our coven. The wolves were in little to no danger, yet they decided to hold all witches accountable for the actions of a select few. "Wow, Tabs, just… wow. That's great that you found your twin flame. Really, I'm happy for you about that. I just wish he wasn't a stinking wolf" Sorren said, slightly annoyed.
I knew that this would happen, most of my friends didn't like the control the wolf pack held over us, I wasn't fond of it myself, but I understood their reasoning behind it. Sorren was the first person besides my parents that knew about Asher, I knew he would want to meet him, to scope him out. Sorren and I both knew it didn't really matter. He knew as well as I did that Hecate bound us together, for eternity. Asher could reject me though, severing his Moon Goddess's mate bond. Hopefully then he would be able to move past me and be granted a second chance mate.
Sorren and I sat silently for a long time. Usually, we would joke around and laugh with each other, but not this time. Sorren's expression was rock solid. He was less than thrilled at that moment, and I knew some of that was directed at the situation between the members of the coven who left with Willa and had been causing nothing but issues for us ever since. But also because of who I announced my twin flame was.
"Sorren?" I asked quietly. I wanted to ask Sorren to meet Asher, I knew he wasn't as bad as other wolves, he was cautious but that was understandable. Asher though, he seemed different, more accepting once he came to terms with me and who I was."Tabs?" He answered back, still sounding a little bit annoyed.
"I want you to meet him, Asher that is." I said strongly, I didn't want to push my luck with Sorren, he had a nasty temper. Thankfully I had never been on the receiving end of it, I've only heard stories. I hoped Sorren would agree to at least meet with Asher, I hoped he could put everything aside and look at the situation with fresh eyes. But that was a lot of hoping for things I knew better than to expect to happen.
"Tabitha…." Sorren started out. I knew this couldn't be good as Sorren barely used my full name. He either referred to me as Tabs or Tabby. Sorren only called me Tabitha under very rare circumstances. "Sorren please, you know you are one of the most important people in my life." I pleaded with him using my big puppy dog-eyed pout. "Tabs, don't do that." He said, I knew at that point he was caving in, I continued to stare at my best friend, bottom lip in full pout, whilst I kept my eyes wide as they could be.
I pretended to sniff back a tear, which eventually led to Sorren giving in and agreeing to meet Asher the next time he came around. Inside I was jumping for joy, I knew they would likely butt heads, Asher didn't seem fond of my kind, and my kind wasn't fond of the wolves. It was going to be an uphill battle every step, but they say the things that are worth having never come easy.
Sorren laid back on the couch, his eyes looked heavy, he was probably still exhausted from everything he had been through in the last week. "Why don't you get some sleep, I'll come by and visit you later." I said standing up preparing to head towards the door. "No, Tabs, really I'm okay you can stay." Sorren said with a yawn. I gave him that look, the look that says I know you're lying. "Okay, tabs, I'll see you later then?" He asked as he sank back down further into the couch. I kissed him lightly on the cheek like I had a thousand times before and headed towards the door. Sorren would be okay, now I just needed to figure out how to break the news to everyone else.
