A whole day passed before Brianna heard the ominous sound of booted steps coming toward her cell. She straightened her shoulders and prepared to face another round of interrogation. The cells in the garrison were enclosed entirely in stone, except for the barred window facing the yard and the small window on the door of her cell. It afforded her privacy, a privacy she desperately needed to maintain her masculine ruse. The lack of natural light also kept her hidden from the soldiers. Out of sight, out of mind, was Brianna’s strategy until she came up with a real plan. Scuffling outside her cell forced her flat against the wall. “Let go of me, you bloody bastards!” a man shouted.
