Ed climbs up the ladder, holding his gas gun. He’s sore all over after Hickey caught him sneaking back into the dormitory last night. Ed denied having sabotaged anything, and failing to find evidence for such, Hickey gave him a beating anyway. Hickey is clever. He never hits in places where inspectors from Calico Base can easily see it. He never hits so hard that the inmates remember it for long... except Ed.
Ed can see the building activity on the other side of the valley, and hopes his message has arrived safely. His hand goes automatically to the locket around his neck, before realising Sabine’s message is no longer in there.

He blows a kiss on the imaginary wind.
