The following day I got to the office early so I finish my work as well as prepare for the meeting with the board. That is the only thing I hate about my job. I stand there and speak while a room of people listens and stare. It's the package that comes with being Managing director so I just have to live with it. The meeting went well and when I got to my office I felt dizzy. I sat down for a while and drank some water. I decided to go for lunch because I was hungry. It might be the reason I am dizzy.
The day came to an end without any highlights and I went home. I was happy because I don't have to cook. Helen is coming into work today so I will be able to go to bed not too tired today. When I got home, I headed for the fridge and took some ice cream. I just felt like having it. I took off my shoes and sat on the sofa. Minutes later the doorbell rang and I groaned. I was too comfortable on this couch that I didn't want to get up. I didn't have a choice though because I seriously cannot let Helen leave her work in the kitchen to go open the door.
I got up and headed to the door. Whatever Erastus wants to talk about kept crossing my mind now and then the whole day and the suspense is killing me. Erastus is very stubborn, so when he sets his mind on something, he makes it happen. God knows what crazy thing crossed his mind this time around. I was just caught up in my thoughts when the doorbell rang again and startled me. I opened it and standing outside was a lady I have never met before. She was very pretty and applied too much makeup for someone who is already pretty. "Hi", I said to her. "Hello there! Is Evan in?" She asked.
"How about you come in and we can talk?" I suggested letting her into the house. She went and sat down. "No, Evan is not home yet. May I please know who is asking for him?" I asked trying to be polite. She smiled and looked at me. "Oh, sorry. I'm Suzanne Martin. I'm Evan's friend. He and I met at NYU a few years back before he moved to California ." She said extending her hand so I shook it.
"It's nice to meet you. I am Liz, Evan's wife." I said and saw her face change in shock. I asked her if she was alright and if I should go get her anything but she declined. "Evan is married? I had no idea. I guess my invitation got lost in the mail." She joked trying to maintain a neutral face. Even I could not understand why Evan didn't invite her to the wedding if all his friends were there. Or at least I thought they were. "I should leave now, I have a long day at work tomorrow." I offered to walk her to the door even though that was just an excuse to leave. I couldn't make her stay not knowing why she was in the state she was in.
When we got to the door I asked for her number so I give it to Evan and she gave me her card. Turns out she is a lawyer. I ignored the fact of how weird that conversation was and headed back into the house. After dinner, I went to our room and found Evan reading his emails. "Your friend Suzanne came here looking for you today," I told him. He looked up with the same look Suzanne had earlier. "Suzanne Martin was here?" he asked as if he didn't hear me well. I nod and gave him the card so he calls her before I head to the bathroom to shower. When I returned I found him still staring at his mails." Did you call her? "I asked. " Yes. We are going for lunch so we catch tomorrow. Will you join us? " he said while asking at the same time. I told him that I already have plans with Erastus and his face was already showing me that he has a problem with it. " Here we go again! "I said to myself softly.
