Chapter Eight
Daniel POV
“Is she coming?” Cynthia asked as I paced around. This was a very bad idea but the plan was already in motion and Anastasia was coming up. She had finished too quickly with Graham and for a second I feared that he knew about the spy we sent to one of their sites.
“You need to leave, you can’t be here,” I said to Cynthia.
“Of course, you’ll want to get rid of me but I’m afraid you won’t pull through with the plan. So I’m staying.”
“She’s going to see you and then she will suspect-” I stopped as Anastasia came into view, she was focused on her phone Andy hadn’t noticed Cynthia. I quickly turned to Cynthia and passed her a knowing look, she got up slowly and left moving towards one of the doors which was hidden by the curtains.
“Ana?” She raised her head and her lips spread into a smile when she saw me.
“Oh hey!” She frowned as she looked behind me. “Why are you here alone?” She asked as she tucked her phone away. I rested my hands on her waist and she leaned in for a kiss which I diverted and her lips kissed my cheeks instead.
“You smell like him, what did you two talk about?” I asked and she sighed and leaned into me, with her head on my shoulder it was hard to keep my heartbeat under check.
“Not so much, we didn’t even get anything done as he told me to leave. I’m not sure but I’m really tired. I’d like to go home and eat pizza with apple juice.” she muttered like a child and I rolled my eyes. Everyone knew Anastasia as the most sophisticated woman, men desired to have her as their partner but nobody saw her like this when she wanted to act like a child and eat junk food.
“Anastasia, I thought you were watching your weight. A little pizza and it’ll be all ruined.” I reminded her, that she was my trophy wife and I wouldn't want to have her eating anyhow- it's not like it mattered, she was already acting so carefree around me and I hated it. She never respected me as her husband and questioned the things that I do especially in the company. It's almost as though she thought I was unfit to run it, and I was going to teach her a lesson for that.
Anastasia POV
“Daniel, how do you know Damien?” I asked as we walked further out to the balcony which was empty and quiet, a place to have peace of mind.
“It's a long story.” He said while I stared out at the ocean and the lights coming from the other side of the city. It was such a beautiful night even though it brought back memories of my father. How on nights like this he’d take me out for a ride and to the beach and he would ask me what I would do differently if I owned the water-themed park in the next city.
“Anastasia?” Daniel called gently and I turned to face him while I rested on the balcony. “You know I love you and I’m glad that I married you. I love how you go all out for us and how you like to get things done-” Something was coming and I could feel it. He tucked his hands into his pocket and leaned on the door frame while his gaze rested behind me.
“Is something wrong? Did something happen?” I asked and he finally stared at me.
“I need to borrow 12 billion dollars,” He paused. “It's really important but it's going to help with acquiring stocks from that company-”
“You want to buy stocks from BMX?” My face remained calm but I crossed my hands over my chest. “That's not such a great idea-”
“Oh my God, you’re not listening to me.” he snapped.
“I am listening- I heard what you said but BMX is not reliable,” I said quietly. “We don’t have 12 billion dollars up for loan right now, not with the upcoming project, it's going to cause a lot of delays-”
“There you go, yapping away like a smart ass. This is what I am talking about. You think you’re better than me just because you’re a privileged heir. You don’t know everything, get off your high-horse and listen to me.” he was yelling and then he moved closer to me with rage in his eyes.
“Danie- I didn’t-” He grabbed my upper arm in a tight clutch, “You’re hur-ti-n-g me.”
“You’re just an ordinary woman who just got lucky and is treating everyone like trash because-” His words dribbled down as the pain sinched up in my head. My back pressed hard against the brick and I felt my upper body tilt backwards. If he kept on pushing, I was going to fall off-
“You think I like begging you for money? Do you think I like pleading with you for anything? Do you know how embarrassing it is to have people talk about your wife and then look down on you because you’re not as rich- do you?” Daniel had crossed many lines throughout our marriage, he would say things and throw things but he had never grabbed me until now.
“I- you’re hurting me-” but Daniel was pushing harder.
“It’s too bad that your pretty little life ends here.” My eyes widened at him but confusion etched in them as I found someone else in the back, it was a woman. Thank God, someone could help me.
“Please, help me,” I called out to her but she only stared at me and then his lips spread into a smile.
“It's such a shame, you’ll be missed.” She stated and placed her hands on her hips. “Daniel love, do you need help, or do you have everything under control?” My brows furrowed as I turned from the woman back to Daniel.
“I told you to stay away Cynthia,” Daniel stressed out wearily.
“Wh-”
“I’m sorry Anastasia but this has to come to an end.” Before I could muster what was happening, I felt my body move, too quickly and backwards that it tipped over the hedge. My body fell against the wind and my eyes filled with tears as I scratched at the bare air, hoping it would keep me from falling. I was going to die and the man I had promised to spend the rest of my life with was my killer.
