The time they spent in the police station was quite tense, even though they were in no danger, it was possible that such a situation could change just as sudden as the same way they had found themselves in it. David was already jittery enough that he spent most of the day pacing around the police station trying to figure out a way they can escape from this damn town. It was very obvious to all of them by now, that their objective of trying to kill that lizard could not be achieved any time in the immediate future, so the only option they had was to get the hell out of this town.
But the days did not pass by wastefully, David and the ladies were able to rely on the supplies he had tied to Vici's shell to survive, and the three tortoises buried themselves in the heaps of metal littered all over the station. Though Minerva had tried to limit the amount of metal they ate, so that they would not go hungry. She was also the one who took care of rationing their meals and making sure their supplies lasted them long enough.
It was a good gesture from her, so good that she and Lilith actually became close pals, leaving David bored and out of almost all their conversations. But there was always something to be gained from such a solitude.
David was beginning to get a hang of his abilities, though it had been painfully obvious to him, that his telepathy was only wired for receiving brain waves(or whatever it was that made his abilities work), rather than sending them. Which meant he would not be able to pass his thoughts or impose his will on another person. However, with the practice and a few dozen extra bruises on his healing body from Lilith, he had realized that his telepathy was unique, it was special in a sense that apart from sensing intent, he could vaguely see an image of the next move envisioned in the mind of his opponent.
It was not clear as all he could see was basically an outline, like the static of a television screen, but now he could not just feel when a person was going to attack, him, but rather he could also vaguely see it. David was contemplating whether he should call this skill [BATTLE SENSE] or [FUTURE SIGHT] or he could just as well mix them both into one and call it [BATTLE SIGHT].
But he also felt it was too early to give the skills displayed by his powers names, because he knew his abilities were bound to experience another change and improvement by the time of his next energy surge. So for now he had to refrain from naming anything until he comes into the full scope of his abilities.
But now that everything had settled down somewhat, David could also worry about a few personal things. Even though their cruiser was able to receive the message from the town, none of them could call or communicate with their regulators, somehow only conventional methods of communication was currently available, and David bet that this form of communication was only available to the military and its personnel.
Every action the so called government had taken since this disaster had started have been questionable and unclear, David could not see any reasons why the communications were down, because he doubted that any sort of evolved animal was responsible for it. If there was anything Pangea really valued apart from its own security, it was communication.
Which meant as usual there was a lot more going on than what was happening. But with no communications, he could not reach his family, of course he would rather not have anything to do with his mother or brother, but they were still a part of the family, and he could not help but worry for them. Their infidelity could be dealt with when everyone was safe and sound.
“David, come over here.”
He was drawn out of his thoughts by the sound of Lilith’s voice. When he heard her, he could not help the shiver that went through his body as his heart started to beat in excitement. Ever since his midnight talk with Minerva, he had looked at Lilith and all her decisions a lot differently. He decided to give her space to admit to herself what she truly felt for him, but even then, with the knowledge that she cared, David could not help it because every time he saw her, his body went into overdrive.
David went into what was once a meeting room for officers in the station, the tortoises were probably chewing the iron bars of a cell somewhere, so they were not here. The battle suit the were given in the arena had already been washed and mended for what ever damage was sustained during their journey as best as they could manage, as it was the only defensive armor available to them. So they had to make the best of it. Because the station had already been looted of anything useful. And seeing the two of them dressed in tight combat suits; sent thoughts the likes which would make his mother on earth pour bleach in his brain.
David closed his eyes and winced as his head pounded in protest. Comparing both his lives was still painful, but ever since he got his molecular restructuring abilities, he could somewhat weather the pain without feeling like someone dropped a nuke on his head. It only went on to prove that Lilith’s theory about having a stronger body could help stave of, if not out right stop the pain of his mind being occupied by quite possibly two souls.
David made his way to the front, taking care to avoid looking at Minerva, who he had began to notice in the past few days was as hot as they came. He rather not betray his beautiful Lilith by feasting his eyes and fantasies on the beauty of another woman. Of course David did not even consider that both women were actually older than him, and would not be interested in a boy younger than them. Lilith was twenty four or five, while Minerva was older at twenty eight. In a normal world, he would not have a chance in hell with either of them. But when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade.
“David we’ve run out of supplies. So we have to figure out our next course of action.”
Lilith spoke up, completely bringing David’s fantasies of her to an end.
“Then what should we do?, we can’t keep up with our previous plan of killing that Lizard considering it has what I would consider an army of monsters.”
David commented in a rather pensive mood. Then Minerva spoke up, adding her own observation into the discussion.
“We also can’t go for a supply run of any sort. Because frankly that would be suicide and even if we succeed, this monster siege does not seem to be letting up anytime soon. I fear they will find us sooner rather than later. We need to get out of here.”
“That seems to be the bone of contention right?, but the question is how do we get out of here, and how do we do it in a way that minimizes what ever damage we can receive, or if possible completely unscathed.”
Lilith asked as she waited for a suggestion from them. It was not too far fetched to say that David had wanted to get out of this damn station, from the very moment he woke up in it, so he had a rudimentary plan in place. David got up and quickly ran out of the meeting room, much to the surprise of Lilith and Minerva, when he came back, he had a stack of papers in his hands.
“What are those”
Minerva asked in curiosity as David spread each of the papers in his hands on a desk within a premeditated sequence.
“This is a highly classified map of Oak valley town, it shows all the exits, and important landmarks, including the ones supposed to be secret from the public. And it also shows the underground military base nine kilometer to the north from here, almost six blocks away from the Mayor’s office.”
David had discovered this stack of papers after Vidi had chewed a hole through the stations vault. David did not know stations had vaults, and he was rather worried for Vidi since his appetite had somehow increased after he had eaten the giant eagle.
“But what good does an underground military base do us, even if we go down there, we would just be trapping ourselves.”
David looked at Minerva like she had grown a second head. In a nutshell the three of them had extensive military backgrounds, so it was quite shocking she couldn’t see what he could.
“Minerva a military base is always equipped for war, apart from the fact that we would be able to get a proper transport out of this s**t show, a military base built underground must have multiple contingencies built in case things went wrong. Which means there would be more than a dozen different escape routes. We can use this to slip right out of the city without being noticed, and we could salvage some equipment that would make our journey to the city of iron, much more smoother.”
His explanation made sense, and it was the only available option they had at the moment. But things would not be as simple as just cruising to an underground base and driving away, which was why Lilith began to point out some key faults in his plan.
“From the look of this map, we will have to follow a system of maze like tunnels connected with the town’s sewage system. That’s going to be problematic for us, because so far I have noticed that one, there’s bound to be heavily mutated creatures underneath the town, and none of them are the pleasant kind. Two, the monsters disappear during the night to sleep, and we know quite a few of them would prefer a place that’s dark and underground, which means we can’t make this journey during the night, but it’s also a lot more riskier since we might be discovered in daylight, regardless of the fact that we’re underground.”
She was right, but the way David saw it, there was no course of action that they would take right now, that didn’t come with it’s own risks. However they had to pick the plan that pays the most, regardless of the risks involved.
“We don’t have much of a choice. We have to go through the tunnels during the day, and what ever comes next I believe we’re equipped enough to deal with it. If we stay here twiddling our thumbs, we’re going to starve, or worse get eaten or turned into mindless puppets.”
Minerva looked at Lilith who seemed surprisingly hesitant about this plan. Lilith was always the daredevil, so it spooked David a little that she was so hesitant about it, when there was no other option left. Minerva spoke to Lilith with what David could swear was a bedroom voice.
“His right Lily, it’s the only way. We can’t stay here.”
“Alright, then since we’re in agreement we will wait two days for your injuries to be fully healed David. And we’re not negotiating about that, since that’s all we should all get ready.”
David on the other hand had a perplexed look on his face.
“Lily?”
Since when had this two gotten so close. It was almost as if he was a third wheel or something, David could not wrap his head around it, could they be doing something behind his back, could they………David shook his head a bit very sure he was seeing things, but in the end he had to ask.
“What the hell just happened.”
