The eagle was injured, but it was still very much alive. Even though it was on its last legs, it could still cause a significant amount of damage to anybody or thing that came close to it. Vidi however seemed to have different thoughts, as he dragged his shelled body with surprising speed towards the eagle, and proceeded to have lunch by eating its flesh, while it was still alive.
David, Lilith and Minerva at this point were used to the sight of gore and mangled bodies, so the sight of Vidi taking huge chomps of the Eagle’s flesh and crystals was not gory enough to shake them. Vici looked forlornly at the giant hunk of meat, but David was not having two pets going rogue over the still living carcass of a giant bird that tried to kill them.
“You better Stay put.”
Vici somberly pulled his head back into his shell in indignation, it was obvious David had upset him by stopping him from having a healthy doze of crystal sprinkled poultry. The weapons and supplies tied to his shell seemed to vibrate in his annoyance. David paid him no heed as he ran to Vidi who was chomping on the eagle’s brain, the crystals on its head seemed to have grown like the roots of a hair, right from glowing veins in it brain. David was not much of a biologist, but he had a theory about how the eagle’s ability had worked.
Minerva and Lilith drew closer to David and were served the same surgical sight. By this point the eagle was already taking its last breath because hardly anyone or anything could survive having its brain eaten. But that was when David saw it, that tell tale yellow vein pulsing and slowly moving towards Vidi who was still gorging himself on eagle brain. David could not begin to imagine the consequences if any one of his tortoises should fall under that blasted lizards control.
David placed his hand on Vidi's head completely wary of his rapidly moving jaws. At the rate Vidi was going David doubted he would have listened if he told him to stop, so he activated his telepathy. Every time he had tried to use his telepathic abilities, it was to receive signals and information, rather than send it. There were different types of telepathic powers, though David seems to have been blessed with a telepathic ability that had various receiving functions. Now David wanted to try sending thoughts, feelings or intent, rather than receiving them. The outcome was that he failed, badly as all he did was give himself a splitting headache.
Lilith quick on her feet and thinking as always, turned her hand into her crystal form, and super heated her palm to really high degrees before placing her hand on the vein.
“ROOOOAAAARRRR!!!!”
That roar sent chills all the way down from the top of his head, to the sole of his feet. It was close, very, very close. Thankfully the roar was enough to shock Vidi as they all took off running down the street, from what they could only guess was certain death. As they were running, Lilith turned to David and shouted at him.
“I don’t know why I let you talk me into this.”
David felt offended, he would not be accused wrongly, not on earth, and definitely not on Pangea.
“Me?, you wanted to come here just as much! But your trashy piloting skills almost got us killed.”
“Maybe next time you should be pilot, I’m sure you’re quite qualified.”
“What’s your problem?”
David asked in indignation.
“You’re my problem.”
David was about to reply in anger when his senses tingled. He wouldn’t call it a spider sense per say, but his telepathic ability to sense hostile intent was kicking up a storm inside his mind.
He jumped and pushed Lilith aside, and in the place where they were standing mere moments ago, two giant hairy appendage was stabbed into the ground.
“KYAAAAAAA!!!!! SPIDER!!!”
Minerva had a really loud voice, her screech had put into perspective a lot of things. First of all, was that there was a giant spider hanging off a building above their heads, secondly said spider was trying to spear them with its extremely long, long, long legs. And finally Minerva was deathly afraid of spiders. Which was why she did not hesitate to point her hand at the spider and set it on fire.
David did not know if the spider had taken a bath in gas or something, but that spider caught on fire so fast it was as if Minerva had struck a match. It was a good idea using fire against the spider, but a very bad idea to do so when they were still standing under its humongous body.
The spider proceed to stomp the ground in a jittery dance of pain, and as if that was not enough, pieces of flaming flesh were falling of it and splattering to the ground around them like a rain of fire.
“Come on!”
Lilith shouted as she moved away with haste. She dragged Minerva who was still spewing fire from her hands completely adamant in making sure that the spider was dead, regardless of the fact that it was twenty feet tall. David followed behind them, but his telepathic abilities were on the fritz. He could feel every move the spider’s long leg would make before it made it. It helped David dodge them easily, but he also knew that without his help Lilith and Minerva would never be able to escape from the spider unscathed.
David raised his gun and started firing, his accuracy was something to behold, because right now, he did not even need to see where his target was to shoot at it. The spider's legs were not protected by any external armor or shell like most evolved animals have seemed to have, from David’s perspective, this looked like a normal spider, only it was twenty feet tall and very flammable. But that was enough for David as he began to shoot at the giant limbs that seemed intent on Impaling them to the ground. The rapid fire of bullets on one focused point made it possible for David to shoot off one of the limbs of the spider.
“CREEEEEEEEAAAAAA!!”
Between the spider and the eagle David had to wonder who screamed the loudest, the shot off leg was only being held together by a thin strip of flesh, which meant that leg was as good as finished. However it still had seven legs, which were not his focus anymore. Shooting the leg was an experiment as David needed to know how tough the spider was, but now he knew, that if he was just as big as the spider, a good squash would put it out of it’s misery.
David moved left as he narrowly dodged being stabbed by another leg, almost immediately he had to jump back to dodge another and move left again to evade the third strike. Mr. Spider seemed to put emphasis on his almost decapitated leg, rather than its burning body, and David was the culprit responsible for the pain it was feeling right now.
“David!.......”
He heard Lilith shout his name in worry, this was not the time, but David wondered what she would feel like if he was seriously injured, would she scream in fright and cry while also confessing her love for him and apologizing for rejecting him previously. David however would have to keep his daydream for another day as he had to dodge another leg and this time by the skin of his teeth. He turned to Lilith and answered her.
“I’m fine don’t worry and keep moving.”
David could feel the pain in his ribs becoming worse as even breathing became very difficult. He was in a really bad position, and if he stayed here any longer dancing with this spider, then he would seal his fate. David raised his gun up and pointed it at that head with six….eight… twelve, ‘Oh God damn it,’ David did not care how many eyes the stupid spider had, he just squeezed the trigger while simultaneously leaning his body forward as one of the legs flew past his head and brushing past the weapons on his back to stab into the concrete pavement. That was too close, but there would be no more close calls, as a hail of bullets went into the hairy eye covered head of the spider.
The monster did not even have time to scream before David poked its skull full of holes. It’s massive body began to dip down towards the earth, David did not need a degree to know that it was time for him to vamoose or he would get crushed under its weight.
Lilith and Minerva were already clear of the spider and they were waiting by the corner of a street for him. David was cutting it close, but he was able to get out from under the spider as it landed with a massive thud behind him.
David barely had anytime to react before he felt talons dig into his shoulder, the weight forced him to the ground, aggravating his already injured ribs and forcing him to cry out in pain. Whatever it was that had grabbed ahold of him was about to fly off with him, but he saw Lilith take huge leap with her entire body in her diamond form, and by the red glow shining beneath her fist she was hot. Well not hot as in gorgeous hot, more like 5000 degrees worth of heat that could melt the flesh from a person’s bone in seconds, the do not play with fire kind.
David gave up trying to explain what he meant, but a few seconds later the sound of a painful screech and a loud thump, let David know that whatever it was that was trying to fly off with him was down and out for the count.
But he could feel himself loosing a lot of blood, his head was pounding and he could feel something creeping and crawling at the back of his mind. David looked down at his wound only to have his eyes widened in horror at the familiar yellow veins beginning to creep up slowly to his head, and to make matters worse they were coming from both sides of his shoulders.
David started to hyperventilate as his fear began to take over his reasoning, of the things he imagined might happen to him, this was the worst possible outcome. He could have been sold, arrested, raped, got laid or even died. He would have accepted any one of those especially the getting laid part, but this…….this was worse than death.
David could feel his vision darkening as sinister whispers began to creep upon his thoughts, whispering dark promises and songs of desires and conquest the likes of which he could never have imagined. He could see her, and she could see him. He felt her just as she felt him, their connection was strong and powerful, completely unlike what the others had. But before his vision could go completely dark David saw Lilith with her red hot glowing hands heading straight for the side of his head. He heard her speak, but her voice seemed so far away it was like she was talking at the end of a tunnel.
“You have to fight David, fight.”
And then his whole world burned.
