David was surrounded on both sides, and quite frankly he was not liking his odds. The hounds had a surprisingly good amount of mobility that David had not expected, of course that did not mean he was giving up or anything. Killing this things would have been easier if they were not armored, though David’s accuracy with guns was not as good with movement than when he was standing, he was sure it didn’t take much to point a gun in their general direction and pop them full of holes.
It was as times like this that David sorely wished his abilities were anything but telepathy or molecular restructuring, because it would have been really helpful right now if he could shoot fire from his hands or throw s**t at this monsters.
The street was too long, and if David kept going down it was only a matter of time before the hounds converged on his position. A little ways down, David made a hard left and turned into another street, or to be more precise an alley. It put the hounds on the right side of the streets behind him, but those on the left were now above him. His heard a little ring, his danger sense almost went haywire, but David was prepared from the moment he felt it.
He let his hover bike continue driving down the street, and leaned back as if he wanted to relax on it. Then he raised his gun and squeezed the trigger. One of the bone hounds had decided to make a play for David and jumped over the roof, but fortunately for David, and unfortunately for the monster, the underside of its belly had a weak spot about two inches wide that was not protected by the bones on it’s body. This area stretched from beneath it’s throat, to its dangling ball sack. David only had a moment to aim, and he missed a lot. But at such a distance one or two of his bullets were bound to make their way past the weak spot.
David’s hover bike shot out of the alleyway with a distinct thud sounding behind them. David had no time to wonder if the hound was dead, as he turned his hover bike left again, going back the same way he came from, but this time using a different street. This maneuver of his had completely put, all the hounds behind him, but they were still chasing for all they were worth. Vidi was still keeping pace with the hover bike, but his breathing was getting labored, which meant the giant tortoise was getting tired and fast.
They needed to find somewhere where they could make a stand, but even then, staying in one place would be nothing short of stupid as it would give their enemies a stationary target, and give them enough time to ambush them. There were too many calculations running through his brain right now, and David was not a able to pick one.
He would have loved to have Vici use his sound wave ability again, but David was sure it took a lot out of him. He was bound to be exhausted, and all the running they had done so far made the tortoise more exhausted than he already was. He couldn’t think of a plan that would get them out of their current predicament, so all he could do was keep driving.
In mere moments he came up to the side of the park, the park stretched for four city blocks, so it was quite big. David could see the mark and trail of destruction left by Vidi after his sound wave. However, David was not really comfortable driving so close to the park, because he knew for a fact that Ahmevid was somewhere in there probably licking her wounds and increasing her agenda against David. ‘crazy lizard'.
David drove past most of the park before he began to feel his left eye throbbing. It was not painful per say, it was more like the aftermath of after someone hit you in the eye, and the pain was over. He ignored it, thinking it was nothing, until all of a sudden a sharp pain lanced through his eye and went through his skull.
David almost lost control of his hover bike, but manage to pull through and not crash into a lamp post. He was scared and terrified almost immediately as whispers began to filter into his brain. He could hear her voice, and with it came her temptations, her pull and her pleas.
It was almost impossible to resist, as her psychic connection to him was on a whole other level than what he had with the three tortoises. His left eye began to bleed. As his yellow iris pulsed along with the beat of his heart. She could see into David, and he felt that under her gaze everything was laid bare before, even his souls were nothing more than toys in her grasp.
David felt it was easier to just let go, because when you think of it, what was the point of all this. Ever since he had come to Pangea he had been fighting, it had been one battle for his life after another. And the worst part is, that no matter how hard he fought, he was never strong enough, it just wasn’t enough.
David was not like the majority of people who would spend their entire life and existence searching for power. They wanted for so many reasons that eventually when they reach the end, David was sure none of them would even remember why they went down that road in the first place.
With everything that had happened to him, it would have been very natural for David to want power too, to seek it vehemently and make it his. But that was not him, at least not anymore. Right now what he wanted the most was to make or find a place for himself. Somewhere safe, and peaceful, somewhere the troubles of the world would not be able to get to him.
The hover bike slowly decelerated as David came to a stop, ten meters away from him was Ahmevid. This time she was standing alone, without any human mouth piece or contingent of monster guards. But David was not there in the proper sense of the word, his body, was there, but his mind was stuck in a trap of his own making, and all with the influence of the lizard in front of him.
David could not see her, he could not see or hear anything as he tried to come into understanding of himself and his decisions. Such an action had left his body vulnerable and open for control. The scales beneath his left eye began to spread over his brown skin at an alarming pace, slowly inching down his cheeks and heading straight for his jaw.
David wondered if his need for peace was just an excuse for the fact that he was just running away from problems. Even back on earth, as a seventeen year old he did not have an ambition for politics because he wanted to help the masses who had problems with the government, instead he wanted that power so that those problems would not be something he had to partake off. He would have helped, just so that he would not have to worry about bad governance messing up his life.
And it was the same with Pangea, he was a tech genius and a nerd because he was afraid of death, or wars, and of his father. David was not born this way after all, as a kid he had been athletic, sharp and wild, much like his brother Mark. But in Pangea being born into a military family meant you had little to no childhood at all, the world was filled with enough dangers that they were forced to grow up way too fast than was required or expected.
And with that growth came expectations, David was born susceptible to magic just like his sister, and it was expected he might eventually develop an ability. All that had set him up to be a hound just like his father, the government’s own personal attack dog, bred for war, killings and destruction. David became a first grade nerd just so that he could avoid such a life, but look at him now.
What was the use of all those masks he had trained and forced himself to wear, the world had gone to s**t, and every problem he had been running away from had come knocking on his door, one after the other.
It was as if no matter what he did everything he was running from kept chasing him, like he was fated to be this misfortunate. In the end because of every thing; he had become a mishmash of unknown characteristics. He had no longer had any idea who he was, or what he wanted. What was the use of searching for peace and a place where the troubles of the world would not affect you, when it was obvious that the world had no intentions of leaving you alone. It was hopeless, and empty.
But maybe it was time to stop running, this lizard offered him something no one else did. A place where he could belong, a place where everything would stop hurting. That peace he so badly searched for and wanted, no troubles, no pain, no worries, and no he won’t be alone. They would be together, and at least he would have a purpose that did not just involve running or hiding away from his problems. It was a good idea, it was the right thing to do, it was………………
“RAAASSRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!”
Veni screamed with all her might, and slammed her tiny scaled hands into David’s back. Her entire body was covered with a dark gaseous substance that at some points even looked like liquid. After she slammed her hands into David’s back, she released a pulse of dark energy that swept through the entire street, completely jolting David and every other monsters within the vicinity of thirty meters out of Ahmevid's control.
David shuddered as an intense pain shook his entire body, it started from the base of his skull and came down to the base of his spine. His entire body contorted as he bent his back so far to the point of breaking, his eyes and mouth were open in a silent scream, as he was so full of agony that he could not even make a single sound from his mouth.
Then all of his pain seemed to gather into one spot in a convergence, then it shot up through his spine, past his brain and straight for his left eye before pouring out. His left eye was pouring out yellow pus, blood and a whole bunch of black scaled tiny parasitic worms. David had fallen off his hover bike and watched with his other eye in abject horror as the pus and worms escaped from his eye.
His skin began to itch uncontrollably, and David scratched with a fervor, dislodging the scales that had grown from beneath his chest to the top of his thighs. This itching was so intense that David took off the battle suit leaving him in only his under wear as he scratched as hard as he could.
His hands moved so fast over his body, dislodging the scales and drawing blood from his skin from the removal and his rather manic scratches. However David was not the only one going through the torture as all the other bone hounds that were close enough to Veni’s Ionite shock wave were also affected, even the lizard seemed dazed. The hounds were rolling on the ground and biting at the armored skin trying to scratch their itch, however due to their armor they could not reach their skin beneath, someone of them had scratched into the big gill like openings at the side of their bodies, causing internal damage to themselves as they bled all over the area.
David eventually calmed down, but after he was done scratching all the scales off, and his eyes stopped leaking yellow pus, worms and blood, he felt so weak that he immediately crashed to the ground beside his hover bike, so weak that even breathing took a lot of effort out of his body.
“ROOOOOAAAAARRRRRRRRRR”
David was very familiar with that roar, by the looks or should he say sound of it, Ahmevid was pissed off. It took a lot of effort, but David could not help but laugh at the current situation. Once again he somehow thwarted her plans of control, of course this time it was mainly due to Veni’s contribution, but David would still gloat in the knowledge that something was messed up for that lizard, he hated that monster so damn much.
David turned his head so that he could watch her throw a tantrum, only to have his eyes widened as he saw running straight for him with murder in her eyes. She had almost reached him when there was a sudden boom and she was thrown into the cluster of trees that served as the boundary of the park.
David had surprise all over his face, but more than that was a look of relief and happiness. Lilith was standing there, in full diamond form, and this time she looked way more pissed than usual. Her diamond skin had taken on a new form, It was as if it was a metallic kind of crystal, and her hands had fire, or to be more accurate a gas that had the properties of fire surrounding her fist. David could feel the heat from here, and damn was she hot,……….err the fire gas was hot.?.
Lilith took one look at him, and it seemed as if her anger reached an entirely new level as her metal diamond body began to grow spikes making her seem as if she had all of them stabbed into her in the first place. Then she turned to Ahmevid and said.
“Pray to whatever gods you know reptile, because this is the second time you have harmed someone I care about. I don’t care what you might think, but one things is sure to happen today…………….I GOING TO f*****g KILL YOU!!!”
