CHAPTER FOURThat night, a storm raged over the district. Through the shutters at her windows, Konstantina could hear the roar of the wind over the Megherny estate. It howled in the chimney too and drops of icy rain found their way to the hearth and made the fire spit. It was not the storm that was keeping her awake, however, it was the memory of Prince Gregor’s coldness as he told her that love was a word for fools. ‘Then I am a fool,’ she thought miserably, ‘as I just cannot help but love him, when I know that his heart will never be mine.’ How she had made her way back to The Castle last night she did not know.
