CHAPTER 2 Bridging the Gap of the Past to Present

She sent Jude to his bedroom. After reading him a story, Jude sleeps soundly.

Ariane goes to her bedroom and lay on her bed, she keeps on staring at the ceiling. She knows her son understands everything as she didn't hide anything from him. Children nowadays can easily understand all the things right now. Besides her son is already matured at a young age.

As she was staring at the ceiling, her tears burst down from her eyes. For so many years of keeping herself strong and that she thinks she can stand well, she felt helpless as of the moment. Her son is her strength and also her weakness. Her son is longing now. Ariane said before that she won't look for any other man and that she will handle everything for Jude. But looking and listening to her son now, she is asking herself, "Am I becoming selfish? Am I doing things for me and not considering my son?

Suddenly her mobile phone vibrates. A video call is coming. She saw Paulo's name on the screen. She pressed the button and connect her video to Paulo.

"Hi. Are you sleepy already? " Paulo asked her. The smile on Paulo's face slowly goes out as he saw Ariane's teary eyes. "Are you crying?" he asked.

Ariane wiped out her tears and said " No, there's something in my eyes, I think an insect just went in." "Anyways why are you calling it's quite late already?"

"Are you sure you are not crying?" Paulo asks her with concern.

"Yes."

"I just call you because I want to see you," Paulo said. "How's your day?"

"Work is quite tiring yet fulfilling. The same routine, work, Jude's school and then here at home," Ariane said.

"I'll visit you soon," I'll be going back home this coming end of the month," Paulo excitedly says to Ariane.

"Wow great, then you can be with your Mom already," she said.

"I'll visit you and Jude?" Paulo said.

"Sure, just message me then." Ariane is excited as well.

Paulo's POV::

"I'll be there to take care of you, my Dear Ariane. I'll take care both of you and Jude," Paulo smilingly said to himself"

"I've waited for you for so long.," Paulo touched his heart while talking to himself.

He is very inspired to do his work on board. He is excited to go home and visit his long-lost crush.

He wants to win his heart.

Ariane's POV:

Ariane's heart is trembling while having a chat with Paulo.

She said to herself, " Lord can you give me a sign, why am I becoming too excited to meet him? Am I acting like a cheap one? Or am I overreacting? He said he just wants to visit me and my son." Aaaah it seems that I am having a headache, thinking too much. Am I assuming? Heck, I better sleep, I think it's just lack of sleep.

"But, I'm pretty excited meeting him. Is he handsome in person,? Is he the same knight and shining armor when we were kids?" Ariane talks to herself.

Ariane liked Paulo when they were kids. He was her protector and partner. She remembered him telling her "When we grow, I will take care of you," she smiles reminiscing the past.

Back to reality:

Her mobile phone pops up a message.

"Good night Ariane, sweet dreams," Paulo said.

"Good night Pau, sleep tight," Ariane smiled while responding to Paulo's message.

Ariane then closed her eyes and smilingly sleeps.

Ariane woke up early and prepared for the routine.

At 6 a.m., she is heading to Jude's school already then proceed to her office.

While driving a message pops in from her mobile phone.

Well, who else?

It is Paulo once again sending morning quotes to Ariane. It's been two days already and it seems they are getting along well with each other.

They are both happy exchanging messages with each other time after time. They are romantically excited. Really?

At Ariane's workplace, her employees noticed her good mood and her smile.

Her employees are looking at each other and talking about her mood silently. They are happy that their Madam is in good mood. Though she is always in good mood, it seems that this time there's a reason behind it.

"I think our Madam is in love," one of her employees told her secretary Cathy.

Cathy smiles and said," Let it be. May the Lord grant a boyfriend to our Madam. She deserves to be in loved and be love."

Upon arrival at the office..... her secretary approached Ariane.

"Good morning Madam," Cathy said. Her very sexy and smart secretary.

"Good morning Cath! Is there an important email? or an appointment for today?" asked Ariane.

Cathy put all the documents on Ariane's table for her review and approval. "Yes Madam, you have an appointment with Mr. Lee, General Manager of Hard Core (a company of Men's undergarments) at 1 o'clock this afternoon at Coffee Beans Xerin. ," "Also Madam there's an email for you to comply with regarding your presentation at Wall of Asia."

"Alright, thank you, Cath. Do prepare all the necessary documents, laptop, and projector for our presentation. You are coming with me." Ariane said while sipping her coffee being given by Cath.

"Noted Madam. Thank you. I'll go ahead ." Cath smiled at Ariane.

Ariane is very fond of Cath, who is only 20 years old, a fresh grad. She sees herself with Cath who is also hardworking and a single mother too. She treats Cath not only as her exclusive secretary but as a younger sister as well.

Ariane started to review and signed all the documents on top of her table and check her emails. She's been so busy the whole morning that she almost forgot to have her lunch when her mobile phone vibrates and saw Paulo's message to her "Hi Ariane, hope you do not skip your lunch as of this hour, just a reminder."

Ariane checked her wristwatch and saw it's already 12:01 in the afternoon. She needs to have her lunch quickly to be late for her meeting with Mr. Lee. She is looking forward to this meeting as they will collaborate with the partnership of their companies. Mr. Lee will be their supplier of Men's undergarments and Ariane's salespeople will market it.

"Thank you, I almost forgot," she replied to Paulo with a smiley emoji. " I'll get back to you tonight when I'm home. It's just I can't hold my mobile phone most of the time while I'm working. Hope you understand. Thanks. Ciao!"

A smiley emoji has been sent by Paulo as well.

Paulo's POV:

PAULO smiled after having a chat with Ariane. He is excited about going home and meet Ariane at the soonest time.

"I can't wait to see you, my dear Ariane," Paulo said to himself

"I'm looking forward to a long-time relationship with you," he exclaimed to himself while preparing to work.

Paulo then stated to proceed to the roof deck of the ship to start his duty. It is quite an inspiring day for him working with a smile and imagining Ariane's beautiful face.
