-Dakota POV-
I hold my head in pain as I sit on the floor where I fell just a few seconds ago.
All I can hear is laughter from the guys that threw the football.
“Sorry.” One of the guys says but laughs.
He runs in our direction to get the ball.
(f*****g jocks!)
The other guys with him laugh but not one of them helps me. This is very familiar because it has happened before. I sometimes feel like they do it on purpose.
Lil helps me up but my eyebrow and eye really hurt.
“Pendejo!” {One of the many words for stupid in Spanish} Lil says giving them a dirty look but they just laugh.
I don’t know what she said but I am sure she is cursing at them. She is Hispanic or something like that and she is always cursing in Spanish, which I usually find funny but right now I am just hurting.
“It’s not bleeding, is it?” I ask.
“No, it's just reddish right now.” She says examining me.
The guys take their football and walk away as they continue to laugh.
“Aren't those d***s friends of those supposed friends of yours?” Lil asks as we walk away.
“Yea, Zoe, and Kylie.”
They are my high school friends that turned popular the moment they came here. They are now in a sorority and have changed a bit but I like to think that we are still friends though they seem to make fun of me most of the time now.
We continue to head to the classroom while Lil insists that I go see a nurse but I know I am fine.
“Dang! What the hell happened to you?” Nathan asks as we walk up to our chairs next to him and Brenda.
“That is a nasty bruise.” Brenda says.
“A football.” I say with a groan.
“Again?” She asks.
I pout and nod.
“What a clumsy football.” Nathan says with a smirk.
I narrow my eyes at him. “Ey... watch it. I graciously leave the room when Natalie and you want to have alone time and it is almost every day. I might not be so gracious next time.”
“Okay okay, sorry.” He says but chuckles.
“Enough of this, let’s talk about the party tonight.” Brenda says. “We are going to get waasteed!” She walks over to Lil’s chair and puts her hands on the back of it as support, then sticks her butt out and starts twerking.
Everyone looks at her but she doesn’t care, she never does.
“Stooop.” Lil whines, looking embarrassed since Brenda is basically twerking on her.
Suddenly, the teacher walks in. “Brenda!” He almost shouts when he sees her but she doesn’t stop.
“Yea, professor?” She continues to twerk while she lowly chants and sing “Party, party, party”
The professor sighs and sits on his chair. “Enough.” He says with another sigh.
Brenda calms down and sits back down. Nathan and I are holding our laughs but then both of us look to the window where we see a head pop up and we both start laughing.
Hunter is peaking in and I am sure Ethan—Brenda’s boyfriend—is with him too. They are all so... obsessive.
Lil groans and covers her face, looking embarrassed because the whole class is now looking outside.
“Lo voy a matar.” She mumbles in Spanish. {I am going to kill him in}
The teacher gets up and opens the window. “Can I help you?”
“Ah...nope... just lost something and I am just... looking for it.” Hunter says.
Lil groans again and Nathan and I laugh and now Brenda joins us.
Not a single day has life been boring since I met them. They all always manage to make me laugh.
After this class, we all have some free time. We head to the courtyard where we sit on our usual spot where there is a table and we meet with Natalie.
I met them all through Natalie and they quickly warmed up to me. I was grateful because I was really feeling lost those first few days of school.
The guys all start to fuss over the girls with hugs and kisses and I just feel lonely. Every time they act like this, I just feel lonely. But then they settle and they start being their stupid selves, me included.
“Enough guys. I’m going to start to charge people around us to watch this indecency.” I say.
“You think this is indecency? You should come to the packhouse and see what that is like.” Nathan says.
“... Packhouse?” I ask with a raised eyebrow.
They all quickly look at Nathan and narrow their eyes at him.
He suddenly looks nervous. “Uh... yea, that’s what we call Hunter's house... where we all gather for fun... you know... cause we are a pack... all of us here... as friends...”
Natalie hits him on the back of the head. “Stop being stupid.”
I laugh as he hisses.
“Anyway, are you heading to your home this weekend?” Lil asks me.
“Yea, I am heading back in the morning.” I say.
“I will never go to your house again.” Ethan says pointing a finger at me.
I laugh.
They came over last week because my mother wanted to meet my new friends but then Boomer—my Leonberger breed dog—decided to pee on what he considered was the strangers in his house that didn’t belong there. He actually peed on Ethan and was also gunning for the other guys.
“Yea you are laughing, but it is not because of the dog that we don’t want to go back to your place.” Hunter says.
My eyes widen. “My mom.” I say and they all nod but also laugh.
My mom is crazy. She was trying to hook me up with all of them at the beginning. I was grateful that the girls were just laughing it off. I was mortified. My mother went as far as to lock me and Hunter in our walk-in pantry. She said that the door to the pantry got stuck but it didn’t. I know it didn’t. She finally stopped when we told her that they were all paired together and that Hunter was actually married to Lil.
(Crazy woman... I love her though.)
“By the way, Lil, what exactly is it that you have planned for Hunter’s birthday?” I ask.
She now looks excited. “We are going hiking and staying in campers. It is in a park that has a camping site. Of course, that won’t be for a while but I am already planning it.”
“That’s exciting, I haven’t gone camping since I was younger.”
“Really? We do it all the time which means that now you are also doing it all the time.” Brenda says.
Suddenly, Aubrey—one of the twins—walks by us. As she walks, she stares at the guys and they stare at her but neither of them has any emotion other than a dislike for each other. I am even imagining small growls coming from the guys because they look like guard dogs... at least I think I am imagining it.
“Do you guys know her?” I ask them.
“Uhm no.” Hunter says.
“... that’s funny. You all look like you hate each other.”
They all purposely look away and now there is an awkward silence.
“Well, look at the time.” Lil says.
“s**t!” I shout. I get up and start running.
“See you later!” I scream as I bolt it to my next class and they all laugh.
I finish my classes for today and head to my room where I rest until Natalie arrives. We start getting ready for that stupid party that neither of us wants to go to.
I put on a black t-shirt dress that goes to my thighs and it has a skull print in the front. I also put on a denim jacket and black knee-high flat boots. I leave my hair down and take a small purse that hangs across my torso.
"You ready?" I ask Natalie.
She groans. "Yea."
But then she looks at my face and cringes.
I sigh. "I know. It looks horrible."
I tried to hide the bruise with makeup that now reaches the side of my eyes but I was not successful.
We walk out and of course, Nathan is there waiting for Natalie.
Nathan's eyes heat up the moment his eyes set on Natalie.
"Ah... we should just stay in." He says to her.
I immediately point a finger at him. "I am NOT going to this thing by myself!"
He chuckles. "Okay, jeez... just a thought. Maybe we can leave early?" He says.
I nod. "Yes, please. If we do, I'll sleep in the common room and let you guys have the room but please DON'T LEAVE WITHOUT ME!" I say dramatically.
I actually have a bit of social anxiety and parties have never been the best places for that kind of stuff.
The party is close enough that we can walk. It takes us about four minutes to get there and like almost every party in this college, it is in one of the frat houses.
We get there and quickly meet up with the others. Brenda quickly starts to drink and though I want to as well, I know that if I start, I won't stop until I am lying flat on the ground. I am a very bad drinker.
Hunter and Lil start dancing and Ethan is going after Brenda who is running around taking random shots from people's hands and chugging them.
Now comes the part I don't like about these parties, I have to go around by myself. Nathan and Natalie are a couple and I know they are going to want to spend alone time with each other and I am not about to cling to them like a scared puppy.
While they talk, a spin around and head for the stairs. I make it to the top and just perch myself on the wooden veranda that overlooks the living room where people dance and talk.
(And this is it. If I am not going to drink, socialize, or dance, what else am I going to do here?)
"My D&D parties are so much better than this." I mumble.
I start seeing some of the hot football players come in. I have a perfect view from the front door here.
Logan, one of the football players and complete eye candy walks in. He is actually one of my older brother's friends but he has never noticed me though I have noticed him. He is total perfection.
He suddenly looks up and stares in my direction. I almost feel excited until he looks away and I remember that a guy like him would never look at me that way. I am not the type a guy like him would like.
I sigh.
This is getting boring and I already want to leave.
The door then opens again and in, come the twins. I am in awe. This is the closest I have seen Austin. I can see his muscles and his tattoos running all over his body. It is quite intimidating and also alluring. It is obvious I am not the only one who is attracted to him. Girls bat their eyes at him and give him seductive looks but he suddenly looks distracted. He says something to his sister. She seems startled and they both start looking around as if they are looking for someone.
All I can do is stare and when I notice that I am looking like a creep, I stop.
"Get a grip stupid!" I say to myself.
As attractive as I find him, I am more scared of him. Maybe I am just stereotyping him because of the way he looks but I have heard that he is dangerous.
I turn around and head to the bathroom. After waiting in a long line, I finally get to pee. I come out and head downstairs but I can't see any of my friends.
"I swear if they left, I am murdering them!"
I look around some more and now, I am done.
"f**k this!" I turn around to leave but of course, I bump into someone.
“Oh! Sorry, sorry!” I say frantically.
I have to look up at the tall guy. My eyes meet Austin’s.
His brown eyes look into my eyes and I almost stop breathing.
