(Clara’s point of view)
I wake up to Goliath gently, rubbing my arm up and down, telling me we are home. I rub my eyes and let out a yawn. “What time is it?”
“About 11pm”
“I kind of promised my mom you would come in and meet her after the date. Would you come in just in case she is still awake?”
“Of course, Clara, it would be an honor.” he opens the door and helps me out. He walks me up to the door with his arm around me. I open the door, not really knowing what to expect. I walk in to see both my mom and Wendy sitting on the couch watching a movie. We don’t have any kind of cable, so it’s a movie we probably watched a million times. I feel free to interrupt them, knowing I am not going to make them miss anything. “Mom, Wendy, this is Goliath.” I take Goliath by the hand and walk him in front of them. Wendy gets up first and shakes his hand. “Nice to meet you, Goliath. I am Clara’s best friend and chosen sister Wendy.”
“It is a pleasure to meet you. I am happy Clara has such a good friend.”
My mom stands up next and shakes his hand. “I am Jenny Clara’s mother. Do you mind if I ask you a few questions ?”
“ I see the message you sent with the necklace, and you can ask me whatever you want, and I will answer with the truth. I just hope you can do the same for me.” I let go of his arm and touch my necklace. What could he mean?
“It’s a done deal, wolf.”
“Mom!”
“It is fine, Clara.” Goliath says, still keeping his eyes on her. Mom walks closer, and for some reason, I gravitate to Wendy and sit next to her.
“Is she your mate?”
He looks at me and back to her. “Yes.”
Mom steadies herself on the wall nearby.
“what is your pack name?”
“ I am the future alpha at the night shade pack.” I see a tear roll down mom’s face.
“She is human. Will they accept her?”
“They would accept her if she were human, but she’s not.” All three of us women yell “What?” At the same time.
“She has to be human, she is 18 she never turned.” Mom says in desperation.
“She has a wolf it is just dormant. I don’t know much about it, though.”
I finally stand up “what the hell is everyone talking about? Is this some joke?”
My mom is sobbing at this point, and Goliath just looks down at the floor.
“Jenny who was her father? How did he get you that necklace? How did he die?” He snaps each question out fast. All questions I have wanted to know my whole life. My legs start to wobble under me. Wendy pulls me back to the couch. She looked just as confused as me. My mom sits back down. “ I have to explain things to Clara first. I am afraid the time has come. I can’t hide it any longer.”
“Mom what is going on.” I croak out, not amused at all by any of this.
“Honey your dad’s name was actually Vince Clearwater.”
Wendy decides to finally cut in. “Wait Clara’s name is actually Clara Clearwater?”
“No, not exactly. Clara, your name used to be Temperance Jan Clearwater. I had to change it after your father died to protect you.”
“To protect me from what I yell.” Goliath makes an effort to grab my hand, but I move it away. I know I just hurt him, but I can’t think straight at all.
“Clara your father lived in a bad pack called silver blood moon pack, and they didn’t accept humans and normally rejected or even killed their mates …” I cut her off.
“What are you talking about packs, mates, humans? I don’t understand. “
Goliath speaks up. “Clara you are a werewolf, and so was your father and… so am I.'"
“Werewolves aren’t real, My name was never Temperance, and there are no packs. It can’t be real.” Streams of tears run down my face. “This has to be a joke.” I start getting super shaky, and my breaths are harder to take. I can sense everyone closing in on me, but my eyesight starts to blur as I try to push them away. I feel myself collapsing, but before I even hit the ground, all I see is darkness.
I am in total darkness, and I don’t feel like myself at all. I feel very light and calm. I see a light and walk towards it. There is a very large wolf. I don’t feel scared, though. It almost feels like I am with an old friend or even a clone of myself. Somehow, I know she is a girl. Her fur is white with iridescent patches reflecting beautiful rainbows off of her.
“Hello girl, I won't hurt you.” She looks at me with her golden eyes. I can tell she isn’t scared. She walks up to me and sniffs me with her large nose. I pet her snout, then walk under her, giving her chin scratches that she really seems to like. She wags her tail. “Where are we?” I look around, but there is nothing but darkness. I start to feel tingles, and I see the wolf’s head shoot up, sniffing the air. She let’s out a strong howl, and I look up and see a blinding light. I close my eyes and when I go to open them they feel heavy. I slowly try to open them and find that I’m in a dimly lit room I don’t recognize. I feel tingles on my hand and see Goliath asleep in the chair, still holding my hand. I look over and see Wendy sleeping on a couch on the other side. It looks like a clinic only expensive. I know I don’t have the money for this. I wet my mouth the best I can, but it is seriously dry. “Where am I?”
