The moment I walked into that auditorium I spotted Tailani sitting on one of the packed bleachers with other parents. Her eyes were focused solely on the court in front of her, no doubt staring at the little girl that would forever be known as my daughter. As much as I wanted to follow her eyes to see the child myself, my nerves wouldn’t let me. When I first learned about her I was nervous, now that I was in the same room as her, I was terrified. What if she doesn’t like me. What if she thinks I’m lame? All those doubts and insecurities swarmed around my mind making it hard for me to look.
