“I understand, Archer,” the Marquis said. “At the same time I would have appreciated your opinion with regard to Mr. Stanley’s horses.”
“I’ve seen most of ’em already,” Archer replied, “and I’ve made a list of the ones I think your Lordship might like to buy.”
“You are always efficient, Archer, and you know how much I value your judgement.”
“Your Lordship might like others more than the ones I’ve suggested, my Lord,” Archer said, “but I think I’ve listed most of those worth havin’.”
“I am sure you have,” the Marquis replied.
He put the list in his pocket and was sure that Archer’s advice would be most helpful.
Now he looked over Ben, who was a fresh-faced country lad of about twenty-one and he thought from the way he was riding that Archer’s confidence in him was justified.
