Chapter 2 Justin got up early on Monday, rumpled and disgruntled after a sweaty and nearly sleepless night. He walked downtown, stopping in a café he did not recall for coffee and a doughnut. From there, he walked around town until the bank opened. It was still in the same place, virtually unchanged. A lackadaisical teller waited on him, checked on the old account, and found he had more money than he’d dared to hope. He withdrew five hundred and continued on his way. By midday, he had water, electricity, and the promise of a phone and Internet by Wednesday. On his way back to the house, he picked up a copy of the biweekly local newspaper.
