1 As he looked up at the Happy New Year banner in the ballroom of the Plaza Hotel, Adam Kowalski hoped the coming year would be better than the last. Considering he’d gone from top Yankee prospect to bartender-for-hire in one short year, it couldn’t get much worse. Throw in a house fire, a lost contract, a spectacular public dumping, and—oh yeah, Adam was glad to see the end of the year from hell. Not that he had much hope for improvement.
