The Unwanted Mate

Ryder’s POV

It’s so good to be back at the pack house. I feel like I’ve been away forever, yet nothing has changed. I have to go to school for the final month. I haven't finished school, going to Alpha training for the last 2 years, but hey, it’s a month. What’s a month? As soon as I’m done with school, I get to take over the pack. My dad is ready to step down and I am more than ready to step up. 20 is roughly the age the change is made, unless the current Alpha decides to stay in reign or does not have an heir to take over.

“Bike or car” I’m mind linked by my Beta Matt

“Do as you please, but it’s bike for me. I need some sort of adrenaline before the boring day ahead” I replied.

Matt asks most days if I’m going by motorbike or car. He likes to do whichever I choose, although he knows he doesn’t have to. He’s more a brother than my Beta. He even came with me to Alpha training, which now means he also has to see out this last month of school. Luckily, we came back at the end of the week, so we only needed to do today, then it was the weekend.

“Maybe we will find our mates now we are back in our own territory” Matt says as he catches up to me in the courtyard of the pack house.

“Nah, I’m done with that s**t. I thought I’d find my mate being back home and I haven’t. I don’t want a mate from any other pack than my own, and it seems like she’s not here..” I decide I’m done with the mate thing now.

“So your telling me if you find a mate from another pack..” Matt tried to continue but I cut him off.

“If I find a mate from another pack I will reject her, yes” I say with a determined look on my face, so he knows I’m not messing. “Anyway, I’m thinking of having a chosen mate. My dad is up in my grill. I need a Luna, me and Lucy have always got on great, plus she’s a good shag too” I said with a mischievous smile. “I will mark her as my mate just for s*x” I laughed.

“Good on you bro, I like your way of thinking” Matt laughed with me.

“Right, come on then, let’s get today over and done with” I say, getting on my bike, starting the engine and revving so much that the smoke from the engine covers the ground of the courtyard before I take off.

It’s not a long ride to school, but enough to get my speed up. When we arrive, I jump off my bike and stretch out. I could feel all the eyes burning on me, girls giggling like they were in infant school with a crush and the lads panicking, trying not to look in my direction. They all bow their heads with respect. For that, I am grateful.

“Good to see you back man” Lucas jumps at me with Dan and Marcus in tow. “How was training?” He asks, intrigued to know.

“Good, it was good. Great actually. There was a lot of she-wolves there, so you know, I got by”

Matt shook his head laughing. “The man only went for s*x I’m sure, like he doesn’t get enough around here”.

“Nah, it was different there, I could do what I wanted knowing I never had to see them again” I laughed.

Lucas, Dan and Marcus were in my pack. They are part of the pack warriors, the fighters when the s**t hits the fan. And sometimes, s**t really does hit the fan.

We walked into the school building. Again everyone was staring at me, going quiet, girls fluttering their eyelashes, lads putting their heads down bowing with respect. I can’t help but smirk, nothing really has changed at all. I went to step forward and just then, I could smell it. An aroma was pulling me, it was a smell of cotton candy and vanilla rolled into one. I looked to my side and I could see her, standing there staring at me.

“Mate” my wolf Riley howls in my head.

I stared at her, my eyes going black in horror at the fact I was mated to someone not from my pack. Not only that, I can smell she is from our rival pack, Sunlite. I can sense her wolf although Riley could not interact with her. She isn’t 18.

Shit! I can’t even reject her yet.

Her smell was incredible. I knew it would be hard if I found my mate and she wasn’t from Moonshadow, but I didn’t expect the smell to be so enticing. I couldn’t even mark Lucy until I reject this girl, that would make my life so much easier right now.

I’m not even sure if I blinked, but I must have scared her with my glare because I heard her mutter to her friend she had to go, and rushed off to the English department.

Shit I scare her! But why do I care? I shouldn’t care! I’m going to reject her at the first opportunity I get.

“Alpha” I get snapped out of my thoughts

“WHAT” I snap at Matt, making him jump back.

I could see the sheer panic in his eyes as he looked at my reflection.

“Is everything okay bro?” He asked with worry.

“Yes everything is fine” I replied, now feeling a bit more calmer than I was seconds ago.

I couldn’t tell him what just happened, not yet anyway. He’s a sucker for romance and he might just encourage the mate bond. That is simply something I did not want, not with her anyway.

Who is she? I noticed myself thinking, either that or Riley asked who she was and I didn’t realise it was him speaking to me.

Just ignore it Ryder, your strong, the strongest around, you can do it, I was repeating to myself. I needed to get myself to the first lesson. I looked at my timetable and my heart skipped a beat.

Fuck, it’s English!

I made my way over to the English department. The closer I got, the stronger the smell of cotton candy and vanilla got. My wolf was going crazy, excited to see his mate again. He wanted a better look at her, he wanted to hold her and smell her up close and personal.

“Calm down for f**k sake Riley” I shouted at him through mind link.

He whimpered. I clearly upset him but he knows the plan and I’m not going back on it.

I pushed the door to the English room open and there she was, the most beautiful person I have ever seen. She did not even lift her head to look at me. Why didn’t she look at me? I found myself angry at the fact she hadn’t acknowledged me. I sat in the chair behind her. I do not want her, but the smell of her is intoxicating. Why couldn’t she be 18 already so I can reject her and get it over and done with! I can mark Lucy and forget this girl ever existed. Now I have to sit here and suffer..
