Chapter 2Paul parked his Jetta about three blocks away from Ward’s house near the community center. He double checked he wasn’t in a tow zone, and grabbed an empty box from his trunk. Out of habit, he scanned the area. There was an older couple walking their dog on one side of the street. Around the corner he saw a family of four headed down to Front Street; he guessed they were there to grab something to eat or to grab some sweets from the local bakery. Although Paul had taught at the local private school for several years, this small village of high-priced homes, manicured lawns, and large HOA fees still rubbed him the wrong way.
