Chapter 7: Finding Mira, 1920The club was low-ceilinged and the vestibule paneled in dark wood. A heavy mahogany reception desk held up a short queue to get in. Lew handed over the extortionate half-a-crown cover charge and passed his coat off to the coat-check girl, taking stock whilst he waited for her to give him his ticket. He kept having to remind himself when he was and that he shouldn’t talk too much and draw attention to himself. He stashed his ticket in the inside pocket of his suit jacket alongside his mobile phone and moved forward into the room. A ragtime quartet was playing on a small stage at the back and a few couples were dancing in a half-hearted way on the small dancefloor. It was still early and although the small round tables were filling up, people were chatting and e
