The Guilty Party
"Melanie! Open up!"
Julian pounded on the door to Melanie's shop, heedless of the CLOSED sign hanging in the window. He had to find her before... He put that thought out of his mind. He did not want to consider what would happen if—no, when—Loran caught up to her. She had convinced herself that he was not looking for her, and he was not. But now she had unwittingly placed herself in his sights. The situation was precarious, and she did not even know it.
Of course there was no answer. She had not opened her store in days. Julian would not have put it past her to have stayed beneath one of her concealments spells more or less continuously since they let her know of Loran's presence in town. A great idea, but now it was one that would get her caught.
