Julian expected Melanie to make more of a fuss, so he was surprised when her only response to his suggestion that she not accompany he and Raedrick was to arch an eyebrow at him and say, "Of course."
He just stared at her in silence for a moment. He had carefully prepared arguments ready to use about how it would be best if she were not visibly associated with this case, since Loran was apparently so interested in it. And maybe she should keep up the disappearing trick she pulled the last couple days, just in case. But with her ready agreement, the arguments all fell out from the bottom of his brain.
