The press conference had already started when Evie found a parking spot on Constellation Way. She sprinted down the sidewalk, which was nearly empty because so many people were clustered around Brad’s campaign office. Someone was already speaking. The feedback from the microphone echoed off the buildings. She didn’t recognize the voice, but it sounded like it might be Jack Drummond. As she approached the crowd, she spotted Merry near the lectern, holding up a small recorder. If only she’d had time to talk this over with Merry first.
