Chapter 1: The Surprisingly Insane Paris’  point of view   “Please fasten your seatbelts, everyone. We are now arriving at Manila, Philippines,” the stewardess said on the intercom. Everyone cheered from the announcement while I stayed silent and stuck my eyes out from the empty blue sky, waiting for this airplane to be landed soon. I still didn’t want to go home. I want to stay in America as long as possible. Four years is not enough to forget him. From the arrival area, I looked for a cab. I told him to bring me to the nearest five-star hotel and after that, I glued my eyes to the outside of the window of the cab. My brothers and my father didn’t know about my arrival in the Philippines. This wasn’t my plan to go home soon. I just need to go home to the Philippines because there’s an emergency when my brother, the firstborn, Ethan called me. I went to America because I want to forget my painful past. Now, I’m going back… here in the Philippines. The reason why I am here is because of the very excusable pathetic emergency of my brother, Ethan. And I don’t know what’s that f*****g emergency. He just told me that it was about dad. Arriving at the hotel at night brought me peaceful and calming scenery. But it wouldn’t change the fact that I am here now in the Philippines and there’s a possibility I could meet that jerk. I need to act cool just in case it would happen to me in an unfaithful time. I wouldn’t know when fate loves to play with me. I sighed as I stared in the glass window of my hotel room. I saw the beauty of Manila at night as to how those neon lights from the buildings and vehicles from afar looked like Christmas lights. Sighing, I frowned. What kind of emergency are they talking about? “Why would they always leave me from behind?” I mumbled under my breath. What gave me a wonderful and very suspicious question is how on earth did they find my number in America? I kept myself moving secretly, to keep myself from the prying eyes of my brothers. I hid so my brothers couldn’t find me. But I guess I didn’t hide all my tracks. Taking a quick shower, lots of questions had been drawing inside of my head. I need to go to sleep after this quick bath. I need to go home as soon as possible. I so wanted to know what emergency they were talking about. And I’m very sure my brothers would be surprised to see their youngest sister coming home without any words saying she would come back. Morning came and I checked in the hotel I stayed in. My hands are fidgeting from nervousness because I am not so sure what my brothers would tell me. Like I had been gone for four years without telling them anything. That would be too awkward if I meet them later. I took a deep breath as I stepped out of the cab, staring at the exterior design of our house. It’s been a while since I went here. I kind of am missing my nosy brothers. My eyes roamed around from the bluish white-painted gate. I was about to press the doorbell from the gate when I saw a little girl from the front yard of our garden. My forehead knitted, confused. Who is she? I blinked for a while before I decided to call. Then, she came over to me. “Hello. May I help you, miss?” the little girl asked me. She’s cute. I think she was only two feet tall and kind of at the age of two or three years old. I stared at her face, knotting my forehead. She looks like… “Uh… I’m looking for Ethan Smith. Do you know him?” I asked, unsure if my theory was right. She smiled at me. “Yes. He’s my dad.” My eyes widened. Dad? I knew it! She looks like Brother Ethan. She got the eyes of my brother and also the lips. Just what the… Heck! This is so surprising! “O-Oh I see. Uh… How about Dylan Smith and Stephen Smith? Do you know them?” “Yes, they are my uncles,” she said with a sweet smile. “Um... Excuse me, miss. Why are you asking about my dad and also my two uncles? Did they know you?” “Yes,” I said with a nod. “Are they there?” I glanced at her and to the door of our house, hoping someone would know by my face. “Yes.” “Can you please tell them right now that I’m looking for them? Please…” I pleaded. “Okay,” she said sweetly. She’s so cute. I want to pinch her cheeks later. “You know what, miss?” I looked at her, tilting my head. “Yes?” “You’re very pretty. I wish you were my aunt.” She smiled and she ran inside the house. I smiled, too. If ever you would know, little girl. I took a deep breath then I turned around. I fanned myself, feeling nervous. I can’t do this. I’m scared if they see me. I’m so dead to them once we are facing each other. I left without telling them my reason. I asked. “You can get through this, Paris!” I hissed quietly. “Um… Excuse me? You’re looking for us?” I froze on my ground upon hearing that voice. I knew that voice. Brother Ethan… Taking a deep, I closed my eyes for a moment before I decided to turn around to face them. Face your fears, Paris! You can do this! “Hello, brothers!” I said to my three brothers and I gave my sweet smile. My three brothers’ eyes widened. And I swear, they made a very shocking expression that is so very epic. “PARIS!” They all said in unison, surprised.     Ivo’s point of view   “Are you insane?” I asked Papa with a surprising, unbelievable tone in my voice. He was in my office right now and he wanted to talk to me for a nonsensical order of my father. I paced back and forth as my father spoke. “I’m not insane, son. I just want you to do it.” “Hell no! I’m not going to do that! Pa, how can you do this to me?!” I asked, feeling betrayed by this piece of s**t. “This is for your good, Kurt. You’ll be marrying the daughter of my friend in an arranged marriage way,” Papa said in his serious tone. I groaned, disagreeing. I even caressed my face in a frustrated manner. “Why would I do that?! Pa, I don’t want to be married for f**k’s sake!” The tone of my voice rose like a wild tiger, ready to eat his prey. “Marry her or else I’ll take over the company you are running and give it to your sister, Stacey,” he warned. “What?! No! You can’t do this to me! I won’t let you give my company to Stacey. She doesn’t know how to run our company!” I said, frustrated. Just what on f*****g earth is happening to me?! “Exactly. Then you should marry the daughter of my friend if you don’t want your sister to take over the company I gave to you.” I looked at Papa, unbelievable from what was happening. We started dominating each other and saw who would lose. I lowered down my gaze and sighed. “Alright,” I said with a surrender tone. The hell! I’m old enough to whom I should marry but Papa is doing anything for me to get married in no time! I’m still not ready! Can’t I decide for myself only? Why does it have to be Papa deciding like he was still controlling my life? Fuck! I saw Papa smile. “Good. Maybe I should go now,” he said and immediately left my office. I sat where Papa sat. I ran my fingers in my hair, frustrated. Thinking deeply if I could still fix this with Papa and make some compensation to stop this silliness of his idea. This is not funny, to begin with! Is arranged marriage still in class nowadays? “We are now in the 21st century!” I said, gnashing my teeth as I found Papa’s idea a f*****g piece of s**t. I couldn’t believe this is happening to me. I thought I could live my own life now and make a decision. This lingers in my head as the day passes by. I tried to speak with Papa but to no avail, he was avoiding for no reason. Like the discussion we had the other day was over and irrevocable. A knock in my room startled me. I groaned as I heard the voice of my young sister, Stacey, an 18-year-old lady. “What again, Stacey?” I asked, frowning as I glared at her. Sometimes, my sister is a pest in my life. She knew how to destroy my life in just a second. Now, she was disturbing me for something. She wanted something I should give right now. “Come with me, dear brother! Please!” she said in her annoying, high pitch voice. “No,” I answered shortly then turned my back to him, starting to tie my necktie. “Come on!” I closed my eyes and she almost shrieked. I am not going to listen to her requests. I have something to do. Going with my sister is the last thing I would do. “Brother, come on! It won’t be long!” I shot her a glare but that was a mistake. I wanted to puke when she gave me her puppy eyes look. No… No… Not that. “Stop it, Stacey. I can’t go with you right now. I’m busy.” Which is true. I am truly busy. I have to finish reading the reports or else it would pile up like crazy. “Are you going with me or I’ll probably tell you to Papa.” I glanced at her again. Gone all her bubbly attitude, she was serious now. I knew that at that moment, I couldn’t say no to her. After all, she was my sister. My spoiled sister. It was my fault that we spoiled her so much sometimes we couldn’t control her bitchy attitude. I sighed in defeat. “Fine.” “Yehey!” She jumped in joy. “Let’s go!” Sighing, I followed her downstairs. This is one hell of a day for me. I can’t believe I have this kind of sibling. What a spoiled brat. “Good luck to me then,” I mumbled under my breath as I inserted my hands on the pockets of my slacks.
