I don’t know how long I had slept, but when I woke Casey had left the bed. I hugged his pillow, inhaling his scent. I could get used to sharing someone’s bed full-time. Someone. Casey’s bed. It was too soon to talk of such things, of course. But I hoped there would be such a discussion in our future. For now, I needed to get my ass out of bed and back to the hospital. My mom needed me even if Ira didn’t care about me. I went to my duffle bag I’d brought with me when we’d gone to the bed-and-breakfast, which seemed like forever ago now, to search for some clothes that weren’t completely ripe.
