Third Person POV
Maya looked into the blue lycan’s golden eyes. The fierce look on her face softened when she saw the lycan’s deep, mysterious eyes turn black and shed a tear.
She quickly drove her knife where the lycan’s tail rested and twisted it. With a grunt, another tear fell from the lycan’s eye and splattered in all directions on her hand near his throat.
Throwing away her knife, she thumbed away his tears and made a small ‘o’ shape with her mouth as if voicelessly shushing and pacifying him. Throwing caution to the wind, she cupped his face with both hands and softly thumbed away his tears. The tears of pain.
Giving the lycan a gentle pat on his head, she quickly sprang to her feet and took out the bar of soap she had taken from the hospital’s staff bathroom.
Taking a few drops of water, she rubbed the soap between her hands and applied it on the area where a deadly scorpion had stung the lycan’s tail.
Maya cleaned the wound as gently as she could. Her fingers were deft and firm but soft and careful. The deep frown knitted between her eyebrows showed how focused she was on her midnight job, forgetting that moments ago she was ready to kill the intruder with a clean blow.
On the other hand, Titan looked embarrassingly grateful and gave a tentative lick on the doctor’s face. Maya looked up, shocked. When Titan licked her other cheek, she silently chuckled and looked down again to remove the sting from the lycan’s sensitive spot- his tail.
Once she was done, Titan nuzzled his head against her chest and let her pillowy soft, spilling breasts cradle him in their comfort. Grabbing the fur on the back of his head, she softly kissed the sensitive spot by his neck. The exact place where her mating mark would go.
Titan looked back in shock.
Did she understand what she just did? Did she?
When she smiled at the dazed lycan and went to the hut’s makeshift sink to clean her hands, Titan stood on his hind legs and caged her against the sink and his large, furry body while his front two paws rested on the wall on both sides.
The sharp intake of her breath was enough evidence for the lycan king to deduce that she was as affected as he was. Nosing his wet, cold snout against her delicate, slender neck, the Alpha softly grazed his teeth across her shoulder. A powerful shiver went down her spine under his tantalizing ministrations. Her skin prickled under his touch as her nerves sparked up.
She was quite an instrument to play, so finely tuned and if he touched her right, she made the most glorious voiceless sounds — raw, intense, absolutely delicious gasps of pleasure as a wave of hot and then calm washed over her.
Reaching the back of his head, she buried her long, slender fingers deep in his fur and looked up, her eyes searching.
The rush of adrenaline rocked across her smaller frame, crashing on her from head to toe when the lycan king gave her the eye contact she desired, stopping his questing tongue from teasing her anymore. Rhyghyr itched to reach out and touch her, but the weight of her gaze kept him locked in place.
Titan held back his breath. Will she recognize his human? If she did, Rhyghyr wouldn’t forgive him and he won’t be able to forgive himself.
Lycans were not anything if not obedient to the Moon Goddess’s rituals and rules. The Luna Trials were open to women of all ranks and regions, save for the ones who knew the king’s identity.
It was believed that those who knew the king’s identity, also knew his likes and dislikes. Hence, it was a precaution against the women who had an edge over his queen who would ultimately win the deadly tournament. Another hidden motive was that the lycan king knew that none of them was his soulmate, and he didn’t want unnecessary crowding of suitresses. Hence, over-crowding was avoided by the competition’s deadly rounds that only a true queen could dare to stomach and pass.
Maya’s eyes wavered and stomach clenched, when the lycan suddenly flipped her against the wall on the side and pressed himself against her in one hot, fluid move. Her breathing got heavier and her chest rose and fell in response.
Her attention was snapped from his identity, much to Rhyghyr’s relief.
She flung back her head when the towering lycan dipped his head and caught her neck between his fangs. Eyes closing on their own accord, a torrent of pleasure crashed on her like an avalanche and chills raced down her back, rebounded and moved up her spine again when he actually bit her and fed on her.
However, before she could find further solace in his natural body heat, the contact turned fleeting and then completely non-existent when he vanished from the place, but not before kissing her abdomen.
Chest still heaving, she grabbed the edge of the sink to stop herself from falling in time. Jello-legs.
Staring at the moving door, her eyes refused to budge from the place where she caught his last glimpse. Not her mate’s. Her true soulmate’s.
Turning around, she almost freaked out before calming herself and reading the bloody message on the wall, written with the scorpion-tipped knife.
LOONA TRIALS. FIND ME.

Rhyghyr’s POV
“Hahahahaha,” Zayn laughed, trying so hard to breathe. “She must have thought that you were an overgrown child. Hahahahaha,” he cackled, his sides hurting and a hand on his stomach. “You wrote ‘Loona’ instead of ‘Luna’. Hahahahaha,” he wiped off his tears as he tried to breathe back normally.
Titan wanted to punch his red, puffy face. Scratch that, I wanted to punch his infuriating mouth.
“At least I got some loving between her breasts while she stabbed you,” Titan bit back and this time steam blew out of Zayn’s ears.
"Lycans are very smart, but I guess we got a lemon for an Alpha. Can’t even spell right."
"Did you call me dumb ?" Titan asked incredulously.
"See. Can't even understand without my help," Zayn smirked.
At Titan’s insistence, I twitched two fingers of my left hand.
“Look! Bunny, Zayn,” and when he looked, I viciously poked into his knife wound with my other hand’s fingers, much to Titan’s delight.
“OUCH!” Zayn roared furiously while a warrior screamed at the same time.
Our eyes widened at the same time and quick as lightning, we dashed towards the women’s quarters and found two murdered female warriors. Zayn’s spies!
The accounts room was in a mess and it was clear that the murderer had failed in his/her mission due to the warriors’ unexpected intrusion.
“It is an inside job,” Zayn gritted out.
“That’s what they want us to think,” I replied, as I forced open one of the warrior’s hardening palms and held up something sharp and shiny.
“What is that?” My beta asked, intrigued.
“Our intruder’s precious key.”
“That’s not a key!” Zayn argued, surprised.
I smirked and inserted the thumb-sized, carved, gold blade in the room’s lock. The smallest knife known to man slid into the hole smoothly. Zayn’s jaw dropped when we heard the light ‘click’ sound; before we knew it, it had already opened the lock in a jiffy.
“It is a key. To the room and the cowardly Alpha’s identity. Make sure that Titan’s announcement about the Luna Trials reaches these packs. I have my suspicions … ”
Zayn looked at the list and then at me. His eyes said it all.
“Your mate will be livid if she ever finds out,” was all he said.
“I am a king, my people’s protector first and then her mate. If I find out that the White Falls Pack was involved, I won’t give a second thought to declaring war on them.”
“You might have as well kissed her goodbye forever tonight then,” Zayn murmured and left, to order the drummers to get ready.
The most eligible bachelor in the kingdom- the lycan king had a bold announcement to make!
And that is when the Moon Goddess smiled, knowing that she had dealt her cards well. A storm was coming. A calm but deadly storm. Lovers and ex-lovers were going to get caught in the eye together if they were not careful.
