When Childe looked into Annie's eyes, he saw a mixture of determination to survive and the desire to be free of his pain. "I saw the fear in her eyes and it scared me to death," he said out loud. An agonized look passed across his face when he realized what he tried to do to her. He looked out the window with tear filled eyes and felt horror take a hold of him again.
