[Mary’s POV]
As Tommy had left, I opened the small box from Kris. Inside the little box, there was this beautiful gold necklace, with a pendant shaped like a soccer ball, which only made me smile.
Soccer had somehow become our “thing”, which had only brought us closer together. Even if it made me happy, I also felt sad, as I was reminded of all the obstacles we were facing.
Every time things went well, a new problem popped up, and I was tired of it. Kris had only one year left, before he would be done with college too, so that had to be one positive thing, right?
