As the scene unfolded, Russell instinctively moved to rush out of the car.  Troy, fearing Russell's impulsiveness, quickly slammed the car door shut and charged toward the man instead.  But Troy was a second too late.  Zoey had already raised her leg and delivered a swift kick that sent the attacker flying. The glass bottle he held smashed on the ground, shattering into pieces and emitting a corrosive sizzle.
