Fraya
Anwir is waiting for me outside the door once I am dressed, Carline standing behind me as the door opens. She quickly slips out, looking down again. She helped me with the tight corset that my ribs are protesting against, and then she helped me with all the strings at the back of the dress. The dress is long sleeved and has so many layers that I feel like I am suffocating in it. At least I have pumps on instead of heels, but I think that is more because the asshole is afraid I might use the heel as a weapon against him. Carlin also did my hair into curls on top of my head. At first I complained that it is just a waste of time to struggle with my hair, but she said that I am expected to look like a queen and a queen should always look perfect. I really long for my jeans and a t-shirt right about now.
Anwir holds his hand out for me, looking at me expectantly and it takes everything in me to not snap at him. If I knew he would try and touch me once I am clean, I would’ve skipped the shower. I try to remind myself that I need him to trust me enough to allow me a chance to catch him off guard and slit his throat from ear to ear. With that, I take a deep breath and force a smile to my face and take his outstretched hand. I think I am trying far too hard because he gives me a skeptic look but doesn’t say anything.
He leads me to a set of stairs and this time I can’t hold back the groan. No more f*****g stairs please! Anwir only smiles as if he is pleased by my discomfort and I almost consider raking my nails down his face just to wipe that smile from his face. There are six guards waiting for us at the stairs and this time I smile, even with the cuffs around my wrists, he still feels the need to have guards around us. Guess he knows that I don’t need a weapon to kill.
“Your mother used to walk down these corridors with me like this at a time, well aside from the guards.” He says and I don’t bother mentioning that Eve isn’t my mother like he believes she is. “She used to smile often and her beauty was envied throughout every court. You look exactly like her and I must be honest, I didn’t expect that. For a moment when I saw you outside of that portal, I thought my spies were wrong about the information they gave me, that my mate wasn’t dead. If it wasn’t for the fact that I felt her die, I wouldn’t have believed them.” He says but my mind is stuck on mate. “I see the surprise on your face.” He chuckles and shakes his head. “Yes, Eve was my mate.” But that can’t be possible.
“Eve’s mate was my great great grandfather. He was very much human and the reason that the first shifter was created.” I tell him, making it clear that I know he is lying.
“Tell me, can you feel your mate bond?” He asks me and I growl at him. “I take that as a no.”
“It must be because of all the iron.” I grumble, but he only laughs as if I am a child that said something funny.
“The iron might keep a mate bond dormant, but it can’t break it. You would still be able to feel it to some extent.” He says. “You see, you can have more than one mate. Your mother had me in this world, and then your father in the other. The reason your bond broke is because you are no longer in the world that your mate is. The bond con stretches far, but it can’t stretch across worlds.” He says and I feel sick with the thought that I might have a Fae mate in this world. No, it’s not possible, he is lying to me, trying to take any hope I have away. “I made sure to make it look like there was no chance that you would possibly survive, forcing your mate to accept that you are dead, that way he won’t come looking for you, so don’t get your hopes up.” He says as if he was able to read my mind.
“He might believe that I am dead, but you made a mistake to take my daughter, his daughter, if you didn’t want him coming for us.” I nearly growl at him, trying to rip my hand away from him that is tucked into the crook of his arm, but he holds it tight.
“I took your daughter, because she is the bridge between worlds and as soon as we are married and I have taken over this world, we will be taking over your world. Your mate is shattered because of the broken bond as most males don’t survive a broken bond and your son still has a few years before he will be able to stand against me.” He says with confidence.
“I will never marry you.” I growl, again trying to rip my hand away from him. The guards around us move their hands to the hilt of their swords at the tone of my voice.
“Oh but you will, or should I remind you what is at stake here? Within three months we will be married, and then you will be able to go home and stand by my side as I make your son bend on his knees in front of me.” He growls just as we stop in front of another door. I open my mouth to tell him to go f**k himself at the same moment the door opens, revealing my daughter. For a moment everything else disappears and all I can see is my beautiful baby girl. She looks to the door and her little face lights up when her wide green eyes land on me. I choke on a sob as I take in how much she has grown in the past two months and my knees nearly give out. I don’t feel when Anwir lets go of my hand, I only realize that he did when I am able to take two steps into the room without being pulled back.
Evangeline starts to look away from me and it is only then that I take in the arm wrapped securely around her tiny middle. My eyes slowly follow the arms up, taking in the veins popping out, the tattoos that seem to be words but in a language that I don’t recognize. I follow it up the mulches flexing in his biceps, then to the leather covering his shoulders. I follow the shoulder length black hair to a straight, powerful jaw, soft full lips, and then grey eyes that are staring straight at me.
“Fraya, I would like you to meet my son, Donahue.” Anwir says, but it hardly registers as I take in the man that has been haunting my dreams for three years. The second he smirks, I see red.
