Chapter 7 The vicious light in Joyce’s eyes left me in no doubt she would carry through on her threat to have me committed. She didn’t so much as blink as she snapped her fingers behind her, urging Bill to grab hold of me. Panic froze my lungs, making it impossible to suck in air at the thought of being locked up, drugged against my will. I’d rather die than let that happen. I had to get away. I dodged Bill’s outstretched arms and ran into the front foyer, careful not to put any weight on my sore heel as I scooped up my shoes and bolted outside.
