Chapter 16: It is love Penelope                            There’s nothing in this world that I love more than waking up in Argent’s arms. I love that the first things that I see when I wake up are his golden abs, muscular chest, and wide shoulders. I love how his golden hair looks when it's tousled, and the way his long lashes rest snuggly against his chiseled cheeks, and I love stroking his hair when we make love. His curls are silky and thick like the softest pelt. Unfortunately, he’s out of town, and all I can do is remember and worry about him.              Thankfully, Lyria came home earlier than expected and helped distract me from my worries. I lean my arms back against the lounge chair as the sweet rays of the sun caresses my face, and the sounds of the birds chirping in the distance soothe me. As nice as it is, I can’t help but worry about Argent and the others. It seems selfish for me to enjoy the beautiful weather while the man that I love is out fighting. I know that it’s the Assassin’s way of life and that I’ll get used to it, but I still worry.              Lyria and Violet sit next to me and stretch out, enjoying the warm weather as they discuss plans for the night. Apollo stretches out beside me and yawns loudly.              “How’s it going with you and Argent?” Lyria asks. “Is it serious?”              I give her a furtive nod. “I know that I love him, and he seems…I don’t know, to be honest. I guess he’s processing.”              Violet smiles warmly and pats my hand. “I’m sure he cares a lot. Some guys are just shy about relationships.”              Lyria rolls her eyes. “Yeah, so what’s up with this Sebastian guy you told us about?”              After Lyria arrived, I told her about the attempted mugging and Sebastian. I omitted a couple of things out of the story, like the knives the men carried and how scary it was. Before she could dwell on it, I mentioned Sebastian.              “Well, he’s a friend of Argent's. You should see him. He’s tall with brown hair and the greenest eyes I’ve ever seen.”              Lyria wiggles her eyebrows. “Was he as hot as Argent?”              I nod my head. “Oh, yeah. He’s a couple of inches shorter, but seriously muscular with this dangerous vibe.” I expand my arms over my shoulders to emphasize his muscular frame.              Lyria leans her head on my shoulder and wraps an arm around my waist. “So you’ve had quite the adventure? Well, I’m glad you’re alright.”              Violet nods. “Yeah, thank goodness. I love living here, but it’s still not very safe.”              Violet has become a pivotal part of our little group over the past several months. I have to say that I’m glad she’s with Lyria. With her sweet Portuguese accent and patient manner, she has won us all over.              I reflect on Argent and how kind he was to Lyria and me after our k********g and can’t help but miss him. It’s scary to think that this is what life is like for him. The more that I think about it, the sadder I feel. I don’t want to lose him. I want to be the one thing in his life that will shelter him. As soon as my thoughts become too maudlin, I blow out a deep breath and pull Apollo’s wiggling form into my lap. He’s a pretty big dog, but I don’t mind. I like how comforting he makes me feel with his adoring puppy eyes and the loving way he rests his head on my knee. Sifting my fingers through his dark mane, I rub his ears and close my eyes.              “Okay, enough about Argent and Sebastian. How did your retreat go? Did anything interesting happen?”              They both nod excitedly as they take out photographs of their trips. Surprisingly enough, most of the pictures consist of Apollo posing around flowers or frolicking in the water. They’re a perfect way of lifting my mood. I just hope that Argent is doing well.
