My friends saw when my eyes widened realizing what Rachel must have done. If she fed Leon that wine then he will have no choice but to choose her as his bride whether he wants her or not. I won’t squash the hope that he might choose me since I’m his mate but if she pulls this off, then there is no chance.
I explained the whole thing to Talia and Cassey and their mouths fell open again in shock. Panic started squeezing its way up my throat. I don’t want Leon to choose Rachel as his bride even if he doesn’t choose me. This is cheating.
“We need to freaking stop her! I can’t imagine Rachel being our queen.” Talia ever the dramatic one said as she wildly searched around the gathering people.
“You’re right. She is going to make sure our lives are hell, especially Mia. She will come after you as soon as she weds your mate!” Add Cassey taking my shoulders to shake senses into me.
“Let’s go find her. I’ll follow this side you all split up.” I said after little to none thoughts.
I don’t care that he said he was going to reject me and even threatened to kill me if I told anyone about him being my mate. He is in danger of forcefully choosing Rachel as his wife without wanting to. People will believe he did it because they were dating. I doubt he wants her.
If he does, Rachel won’t have to use an aphrodisiac to get to him. Running down the hallways like a horde of zombies are after my life, I searched all over for any lithe figure like Rachel’s but no luck. I won’t mind seeing Eloise right now because then I’ll know where Rachel is.
Instead of seeing Rachel and stopping her, I saw Leon standing by a ceiling to floor window gazing outside. I slowed my pace watching him looking really good in his royal outfit. He looks exactly like who he thinks he is, the god of Eclipse Prowess Institute and the Lycan Prince.
I know he knows I was standing there but he didn’t bother turning to acknowledge me so I made my way towards him. I stood a few feet away from him not knowing what to say. Should I warn him of what Rachel is about to do?
Before I could open my mouth, a guard sharply turned the corner and called Leon to go make an appearance downstairs. s**t, I have lost my chance. I followed them down the stairs where I found Leon dancing with a young girl. There are lots of them in this coronation all hoping to be picked as the next Lycan Queen.
I went back to serving drinks but when I saw that Leon was standing all alone by the bar, I slipped there unnoticed. Rachel hasn’t approached him yet and I haven’t seen her around yet.
“Hey! I wanted to warn you about Rachel. I saw her mixing a love stimulator in a glass of wine. Don’t take anything she gives you…” he cut me off with a glare.
“Who do you think you are to come talk to me about this? You are nothing but a maid at this event. This is a royal affair, and I am a prince not a civilian. How dare you talk to me while serving punishment?” He said in utter disdain getting the attention of the people around.
A guard beside him instantly came forward and asked. “Shall we remove her, Your Highness?”
I saw it in his eyes, he wanted the guard to humiliate me and drag me off the premises but changed his mind at the last minute. I swallow, holding the tray at the counter tighter around my chest.
“No need. I'll take care of this myself.” With that, he stood up and dragged me by the wrist to a corner where no one was watching.
“You have no right to treat me like this, Leon!” I fumed after he let go of my wrist and I stared down at the bruise forming.
“You think you belong here because you’re my mate? You're nothing but a peasant, sweetheart . Know your f*****g place and don’t talk to me like that ever again.” He said coldly.
Now I am furious.
“I was only trying to warn you!” I was pinned against the wall behind me before I could close my mouth.
“I don't want your warning! I don’t want your lies. You are so desperate for attention you’d do anything.” He breathed in my face while staring at my lips like he wanted to kiss me then he shook his head.
“Let me go, Leon!” I struggled against him but I was no match for his strength.
“Don't make me regret sparing your pathetic life. Stay away from me, or else. This is your final warning. And it is your highness for you!” He pushed away from me and left.
I stood there for a second too long then went back to my work. I have tried to warn him. If he ends up choosing Rachel as his wife and regrets it later, I’ll be there to tell him I had warned him but he thought I was doing it for his attention.
When I made my way back to the kitchen to take some desserts, I could find Talia or Cassey so I filled up my tray. Just when I was about to leave and start serving people, Rachel suddenly walked in with wine glasses in both her hands.
“Hey, Mia! Thought you could use a little pre-job celebration. Though you’re serving a punishment, it’s still something.” Rachel said with a sickly sweet smile.
“Oh, um, thanks, but I'm not much of a drinker.” I said, shaking my head.
“Oh, come on, loosen up a bit! It's just a little wine.” She smirked passing me a cup.
“I really shouldn't…” I shook my head slowly moving away.
“Don't tell me you're scared. Unless you can't handle a little drink?” She raised a careful arched brow.
“No, of course not. Fine, I'll have a glass.” I said knowing that is the only way for her to leave. Besides, the wine doesn't look like the one she’s added the love stimulator in.
“That's more like it.” She gave me one glass while she sip from the other, I do the same.
“See, that's not so bad, is it?” She said
“I-I don't know... something doesn't feel right.” I blink but she only gave me a mysterious smile and left the kitchen.
Taking the appetizers tray, I went to serve when Rachel appeared out of nowhere and made me stumble awkwardly. She didn’t have to try so hard since the drink she gave me is making me feel all sort of funny. I would have fallen with just a tap on my shoulder.
“How f*****g dare you ruin my expensive dress?” Rachel roared angrily.
It took me longer to regain my balance then I was met with Rachel’s hand striking my cheek with so much force I was sent reeling into Eloise. Caught off guard, Eloise delivered another sharp stinging slap to my other cheek then forcefully shoved me away.
I fell to the floor with a thud, tears of humiliation rolling down my face as the whole guests came to watch what was going on. The air was cackled with tension as they all witnessed me pathetically sitting there on the floor.
Rachel’s heels came forward and she dragged me by my hair making me stand on my feet when Leon appeared out of nowhere and forced Rachel away from me. I would have cried in relief if not for the pain in my scalp from where she manhandled it.
“Look who decided to show up! Little Mia can't handle a little teasing.” Rachel said while glaring at me.
“That's enough, Rachel. Leave her alone.” Leon said in a tone that left no room for argument.
“And why are you suddenly defending her, Leon? She's just a weak human. She ruined my expensive dress!”
“She's my mate.”
Rachel laughed at that even bending down to hold her stomach while murmurs came from the guests. Suddenly feeling powerful that he called me his mate in front of everyone, I grabbed Leon’s face and kissed him so passionately a moan escaped his throat unknowingly.
I heard the crowd gasping in shock but I didn’t pull away until my lips were swollen and bruised. Leon stared at me with those eyes that weakened my knees. I turned to face Rachel who stared at us like we had grown more heads in that second.
Licking my swollen lips to taunt her, I said. “Yes, I am his mate.”
Leon, whose arms were still around me, brought my back to his warm body. With a swift movement, he bared my neck, his touch sending shivers down my spine. Gasps filled the air as his lips pressed against my neck then he pierced through the flesh making me moan at the pleasure.
When he pulled away after what felt like an eternity, I had a werewolf mark around my neck and it was glowing. The realization dawned on the guests, shock in their eyes as they beheld the mark. None of them believing a human is the chosen mate for their future king.
