Chapter 1
Eyes glazed far away with thoughts jerking from one corner of my mind to the other, I stared blankly at the food before me. Any other person would be happy with the position I am in right now but I’m not. A scholarship at Eclipse Prowess Institute is every person’s after coming to this city. Not me.
We moved to this werewolf city with my mother a little more than a week ago. I thought it was going to be like my former school where everyone minds his or her business. Nope, it wasn’t the case and I was shown I would have no place in here the first day I came.
That was the day one guy who is probably a werewolf, come to think of it, I think I’m the only human here. Well, the guy asked to show me the cafeteria but he took me to a different place at the back of the school and I couldn’t find my way back till the classes were over. He even smiled at me when he saw me the next day knowing what he did.
I found out he was actually a lower rank werewolf which makes me a little more frightened because if a lower rank could pull such a prank, what would happen if the higher rank decided to play with me too? I’d be f****d.
Peacefully pushing down the food in front of me, I gaze down at the werewolf food trying not to make a disgusted look so I won’t get bullied for that. They’d notice anything I do but I’m finding it really hard to get used to their food.
I sighed, pushing another piece of barely cooked steak down my throat when a girl around my age walked towards my table with another girl behind her looking as though she wanted to be anywhere but here before she slipped on her act. It doesn’t take a genius to know who they really are.
I have also heard all about her during my last class a few days ago. Her name is Rachel, the Lycan Prince‘s girlfriend and the other girl is Eloise. They stared down at me like dirt beneath their shoes while I grasped desperately onto the fork in my hand as if it would help me escape.
“Look at her, El, clinging to that fork like it's her lifeline. Pathetic.” Rachel spats, her eyes blazing as she stares at my outfit with disgust.
“Yeah, she's humanly begging for scraps.” Eloise chuckled as she emphasized the word humanly.
“And did you hear? She is now the only human in the whole institution! Can you believe that? A weakling like this?” Rachel hit my worn sneakers with her expensive heels.
“Probably just using her for some cheap entertainment for us. We are going to have so much fun with her.” Eloise snickered watching tears gather in my eyes even though my head was lowered.
“Absolutely. She's poor, dirty, and completely powerless. It's almost sad.” I could hear the pout in her voice and the snickers of every single person in the cafeteria.
“Almost? More like laughable.”
I didn’t see it coming for the first few seconds but the next thing I know, I was moving away from the ketchup Rachel picked off the table to pour on me. I have always been fast and athletic and I dodged it a second before it came only for it to backfire and pour itself on Rachel instead.
My eyes widened at the turn of events and she also stared down at her former pretty dress. I didn’t know when I started spelling f****d in my head as my heart thumped loudly inside my chest.
Blind rage was written all over Rachel’s face as she turned towards me ready to beat me to a pulp no doubt. Just when she raised her fist in the air, I ran as fast as my legs would take me. The urge to escape from taking the beating of my life spurring me faster to the other side of the school.
I pushed open the bathroom stalls and entered one of them without knowing where I was. Latching the door close, I lean back against the wall to calm my raging heartbeat and make sure Rachel won’t find me anytime soon.
Just when I thought everything was over, the sound of water running in one of the stalls made my heart jerk again. I blink at the painting in the bathroom, blue then blink again realizing I am in the boy’s bathroom. s**t!
Did I just break one of the school rules a week after I’ve joined them? My eyes were closed again hoping no one would see me in here and I could leave without getting punished. God, this school is so awful. I hate it here.
I straightened when the other stall was pushed open then held my breath so they wouldn't hear me. I am still finding out more about werewolves, I don’t know what they are really capable of. I can’t put it past them to know I was here.
It was late when I realized that my shoes were showing beneath the door to the stall because I didn’t latch it well in my panic. Rachel would have found me if she had ventured in here but she didn’t know it was the boy’s bathroom. Only I was foolish not to notice.
The other person stopped walking right in front of my stall then I heard sniffing loudly, pause, then another longer and louder sniff sound filled the air. I’m doomed. Werewolves could smell anytime from miles away and this one has smelled me inside here with him.
“I know a girl is in there. Show yourself!” A deep voice rumbled out in a command.
Panic filled my veins again but I cannot show myself no matter what. The voice doesn’t sound kind and God knows what they would do to me. Report me? Or bully me some more before reporting me?
The voice commanded that I show myself three more times then sounds of footsteps filled the air like he left. Thank God. I sagged behind the wall with relief. This is such a bad day for me and I doubt I can continue the classes for the rest of the day. I’m just going home.
Slowly opening the door, I walked out of the stall in light feet only for the stranger to grab me by my neck and pin me to the wall. The stranger I thought had left when he got tired. He was large but he fit himself in between my legs with no struggle.
My eyes fell on my captor and I blinked. I know who this is without having seen him before. I have heard about him all over the school the day I came because no one can seem to keep quiet about him. He is like the God around here.
Leon Darkclaw, The Lycan Prince.
This is my first time seeing him but I couldn’t look at him clearly because his eyes are filled with rage though the way he has me pinned to the wall is anything but furious. My eyes held him then he started sniffing me again.
The connection I felt with him was instantaneous as my stomach fluttered and my face tingled. His head lowered to my neck to sniff me and an embarrassing moan escaped before I could stop it but the sound made Leon groan and deepen his nose in my neck.
He pulled back and watched my eyes again then slammed his lips on mine and kissed me, deep. My toes curl inside my sneakers and just when I was about to be more engrossed in the feeling, Leon pushes himself away from me and I fall to the ground.
Confused, I raised my head to meet his eyes then mine widened with another wave of fear far different from the one I felt with Rachel earlier.
