Chapter 4

"I'm sorry Willow but you know it's true." Damon said sternly as we made our way back to the pack house. I lived there because I was considered the alphas daughter, Damon lived there by my request. He was my best friend, we have been inseparable since the day we met and Jade felt extremely protective of him. We both knew Damon wasn't our mate even though we couldn't actually find our true mate until I was 18 and that was weeks away, and I honestly had no intention of having a mate, I didn't want or need one. but if I were to have a mate Damon would be the ideal mate. He was an attractive man, you would have to be blind to think otherwise. He had chocolate brown hair, amazing green almond shaped eyes, he was lean but muscular and his skin was slightly tanned. He was also caring, kind, care free, and all around a great guy. "Willow, are you listening?" Damon asked with annoyance.  I snapped my head to him and gave him an apologetic smile. "Sorry. I was lost in thought." I admitted lowly. Damon shook his head exasperated. We walked the rest of the way to the pack house in silence, not an awkward silence, but a comfortable silence that you could only get when you were with someone you completely and fully trusted.   We parted when we walked inside and I made my way up to my room to shower. I smelled of sweat, blood and dirt. The smell made even my nose wrinkle in disgust which was bad, if you could ever smell yourself you know you needed a good shower.  I sighed in relief as I made it to my room and under the stream of hot water that sprouted from the waterfall style shower head. I just stood there for several moments, letting the hot water loosen all my tense muscles before washing my hair and body with my favorite coconut shampoo and body wash. Nothing can surpass the smell of coconut.  When I stepped out of the shower I wrapped a towel around my body and went to my walk in closet to get some clothes. I decided on simple black skinny jeans and a black tank top which I paired with my black combat boots. If you haven't noticed I love black, I think the color suits me to be honest. I braided my long black hair and made my way to the kitchen for breakfast. I liked training before the sun came up, the silence and darkness make it easier to concentrate.  "Good morning Willow. Did you and Damon have a productive training session?" Gabriel asked me. I smirked looking over to Damon "I kicked his ass. Again." Gabriel chuckled as I took my place on his right side. This always earned glares from Bella and Landon. Neither of them cared for me, not since Gabriel took a liking to me and basically pushed Landon to the side. To be fair he spent a massive amount of time with Landon. Taking years to try and train him, try and make him into proper alpha material. Nothing ever worked. He finally gave up after Landon turned 16 and focused his attention on me. Making my training harder, Showing me and making me get use to everything it takes to be an alpha.  "So Landon. How did your training go?" I asked, trying not to let my amusement leak into my voice. I already knew how it went, badly, it always does. His fighting skills are awful, he couldn't even take down an omega. He says it's inhumane and cruel to fight just for the off chance we should be attacked.  Landon growled at me and I couldn't help but laugh choking on my food in the process. He sounded like a hurt puppy. I looked over to Gabriel who was looking at him disapprovingly. "Landon, dude. Maybe you should practice that growl. Someone might think a pup is hurt if you don't." I said laughing.  This time Bella growled at me. My head snapped to her and my eyes narrowed. "Know your place Luna." I growled out. She flinched back away from me, holding onto Landon tightly as if he could protect her. "You know what, I am sick of this. Landon." I all but yelled. "Meet me at the training grounds in 30 minutes. We are going to see what you are made of seeing as how your mother clings to you as if you could protect her."  Landon's eyes widened as he looked from me to his father. Pleading with him not to let this happen. "No son. You need this, the pack needs to see what their heir is capable of." Gabriel stood from his seat and pinned his son with a cold glare. "You will do this." He said, using his alpha tone. Landon gulped harshly and nodded at his father. "Willow." He said pulling me from observing Landon. "Do not go easy on him." I smiled wickedly and nodded. This was what I have been looking forward to for the last two years, showing the pack what a worthless heir they had, what an unworthy one he was.  I stood from the table excusing myself to my room to put on my training clothes which consisted of a black sports bra and black leggings. I walked confidently out to the training grounds where the entire pack has already gathered. "Looks like this will be in front of the whole pack." Jade said. I chucked at her "That was the plan." I told her amused. "Willow, don't you think this is going overboard a little?" She asked. I just scoffed. "Of course not. This pack deserves a strong resilient leader, not one like Landon. Once the pack sees what a pathetic excuse of an alpha heir he is they will turn away from him, refusing to have him as their alpha."  Jade shook her head. "And who would take over for Gabriel? You?" She asked. "Well no, I have my own pack to go back to." I said. "Exactly, so who would take over here?" Jade questioned. I thought about it for a minute. A idea crossed my mind and I smiled. "I will get Gabriel's permission to merge the two packs and make it one large pack." I said triumphantly. Jade sighed and retreated to the back of my mind obviously not enthusiastic about my idea.  Once I made it through the crowd to the center of the make shift arena I smiled. There stood Landon, his eyes darting around the gathered pack in fear and shock. Apparently he did not expect the entire pack to come and watch the fight. When his eyes finally landed on me they grew wide with fear. He pleaded with his eyes for me not to do this but I just shook my head at him as I finally stopped in front of him.  Gabriel walked in between the two of us "Willow has challenged my son Landon." He bellowed loud enough for the entire pack to hear. "This challenge is not for his birthright but a showing, She wants the pack to know the type of alpha that should take over for me when the time comes." Whispering started among the crowd of wolves. They were confused and excited at the same time. There has never been a challenge to show the power of an alpha. "This battle will be in human form." Gabriel quickly stated looking at me. I nodded in thanks. "Let the challenge begin." Gabriel yelled as he made his way to stand beside luna Bella who was watching us, trembling with fear.  I crouched down and smiled menacingly at Landon who just stood there frozen. I motioned with my hand for him to come on, attack first. He shook his head a vigorously. I sighed as I ran towards him. I quickly landed a blow to his jaw before he could register what happened. He dropped to the ground groaning holding his jaw in shock. Evidently he didn't think I was going to go through with this.  When he made no move to get up, I grabbed him by his collar and drug him to his feet. I punched him square in his nose. Hearing the sicking sound of bones breaking I smiled knowing I had shattered his nose. Blood oozed from his nose as he looked at me. His eyes had darkened letting me know his wolf was at the surface. "Come on wolfy. If Landon can't fight maybe you can." I taunted as I kicked him in the ribs, sending him flying into the gathered pack members.  Finally, Landon sprang to his feet and snarled at me. I smiled, curling my finger motioning for him to attack. He obliged, surging towards me with anger. I dodged blow after blow, kick after kick. Laughing every step of the way. This only seemed to anger him more, as he roared into sky. His hands lengthened into claws and his canines lengthened into fangs. "Finally." I said. "We can have some fun." When Landon had fully shifted his rust colored wolf stood before me growling. He ran towards me mouth open as he went directly for my neck. I side stepped his large form and punched him in his ribs causing his wolf to yelp in pain. "Willow just finish this." Gabriel said through the mind link. "But I'm having so much fun." I whined. "Willow." Gabriel growled. "Fine." I sighed.  When Landon's wolf charged me again I dodged and wrapped my arms around hid massive neck and squeezed. He thrashed and bucked against me, but my grip was iron tight. When I felt his body start to go limp I dropped him. He shifted back coughing and gasping for air. Gabriel made his way to the center and shook his head at his son. "The winner is Willow." He bellowed.  The crowd erupted in whispers of anger, disgust and shame. They didn't like that their heir was weak. They glowered at Landon's crumpled form and shook their head in disapproval before leaving to go their separate ways. "I'm sorry I had to do that Gabriel." I said as I walked to stand beside him. "It had to be done." He sighed. "I just don't know where I went wrong." He said pinching the bridge of his nose. "You didn't go wrong anywhere. Bella made him soft, made him weak by coddling him." I told him. He looked at me and smiled. "You are going to make a great female alpha." He stated and walked away. I hoped he was right, because the last thing  I wanted to do was let this pack or mine down.
