Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ*:.:..:...VALERIA'S P.O.V...:..:..:*Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ
I was taken to the woman's office. The entirety of the main building seemed empty. Without my wolf, I have no second sense, average sense of smell, everything that made me a werewolf was gone. And I’m sure I’ll need it to survive in this school.
I sat behind her desk, and a man I hadn’t seen following us arrived with my bags. Placing them next to my chair, then he exited. The vampire in front of me crossed her legs and pulled out her folder on me. I’m guessing her. I'm just going with the wind here. I know nothing, and I am terrified.
“Miss Vanguard, there aren’t many rules for you to know about. Just go to your classes, curfew is at eleven pm, take the medication we give you no questions asked, and speak with your assigned doctor every time you feel you’re losing it. We did a quick run down on you since we only got your admission letter two weeks ago. We’ve been able to place you as a category two. Or a level two.”
Medication? Level two? Which one should I ask about?
“A level two?” Crap, Valeria, you chose wrong!
“We have levels here for students. We have five levels to be exact. Level ones get a wristband, which means they are a danger to no one. And they usually have a one or two-year sentence." Did she just say sentence? Or are my ears deceiving me? "They’re not well but they aren’t a threat. Level two is what you are, you get an ankle monitor- a special kind.” she pulled open a drawer, and placed it on the table. It’s unlike any other ankle monitors I’ve seen online.
It’s flat, green, and it has a sharp small needle poking out from the inside. Is that normal?
“Level twos are a danger to themselves. So based on your file, your mother says you attempted to jump off your home building, and you were saved by one of your older sisters. Every time you feel like the urge to do that again is too strong, the monitor will sense it and knock you out. Or alert your assigned doctor.”
Oh, that’s what the needle is for.
“Level threes are a danger to others. They get a collar around their necks. Level fours are a danger to themselves, and others, so we give them a muzzle and collar. Level five is Kaito Asher.”
I blink. Level five is a person? That’s all she tells me about level five, and when she notices my confusion.
“Level five wasn’t a level until he arrived last year. We had to make a whole level for him. Level fives are now officially people who are too dangerous to exist.”
I shuddered at the thought. Goddess, I know I don't pray to you as often as I should. But if you could just drag me to heaven now, I'd appreciate the favor. I promise to pay you back in the next life.
“Now, let’s get this on your ankle and I can lead you to your dorm. The dorms are divided into three parts. The singles, the apartments, and the... don’t worry about it. You’re in apartment S-090. Your roommates are omega male, Nevian Shaw, and alpha female, Kayla Davenport. I’ll walk you there myself, be up early tomorrow to get your assigned doctor, and for a tour of the school. Try not to get into any problems. You'll be here for the next three years but you can get out early on good behavior.”
This is a prison. Not a bloody school.
I nod, not able to find my voice under her piercing stare. She walked around her desk, knelt by my feet, and yanked my pant leg up. The ankle monitor hurt, that tiny needle is painful.
I bit the inside of my cheek to hold in my scream, bloody hell. Then I got up to grab my bags. She stayed true to her word and walked me out of the main building to my dorm/apartment. It was a thirty-minute walk with the route she showed me. And once again, there wasn’t a single student in sight.
She gave me a bag of items. I think electronic devices.
I was worried. Once we arrived at the building, I filled out my information, she handed me a key card with my face on it. It’s to open classrooms and my apartment. She didn’t follow me in, I took the elevator alone and I was happy about that. I take my small wins where I can get them.
Three years. If I’m on my best behavior I might even get reduced to level one and I can hold some hope to leaving here with my sanity intact.
I have no phone, I think she gave me one but I don’t see myself using it because obviously they’ll be using it to spy on me. I’m not dumb.
Once out of the lift, I knocked on the door and it opened. Nevian I think is this bloke's name.
“G’day mate, I’m Valeria. Your new roomie.”
“Good what?”
I roll my eyes. I don’t have a thick accent, I'm not sure what's confusing him.
“Good day, dude?”
He chuckles. “I’m sorry sorry. Come on in. I hope you’re a better roommate than that bum.” he stepped out of the way, and I caught a glimpse of a girl doing push-ups. I didn’t even bother greeting her and instead asked Nevian where my room was.
He pointed at the door to the right. One bathroom, three bedrooms, no kitchen, and a small living room that can only take one long couch, a small table, no TV or anything.
It’s an okay space.
I head to my room and drop into the unmade bed. There’s a desk and a chair, a brown wood wardrobe, and the bed is right. I huff and try to ignore the wetness in my eyes. To keep my mind busy from the horrors I’d witnessed today, I made my bed, unpacked, and then brought out my items to take a shower.
Nevian was in the living room, I could see his bare ankle. He didn’t have anything there, he was wearing a bracelet so he’s a level one.
The alpha girl though, she’s got a collar on, and she’s watching something on her tablet. I have no devices- I mean no devices not given to me by that creepy woman. My parents took my phone, two years ago. I walk past the living area, saying nothing to them. After the shower, I head back to my room where I sleep.
No food. I don’t think I can stomach anything. I woke up at six am sharp. I haven’t been able to shake that habit since the attack. Bloody tossers who attacked me deserve to be buried alive with my family. I’m nothing special without my wolf, I know that. But it just hurts the way everyone honed it in after the attack. Making comments on my weight, attacking me, treating me like I was scum.
What was the point of praising me for years if they were all praying for my downfall? No one even bothered to search for the people responsible. They let me suffer, and they blamed me for it.
I stretched and started preparing for my day. There was a knock on the door.
“Who’s knockin’?”
“It’s Nevian, your welcome package is here.”
I opened the door to find him with a big box.
“This has your notes and devices allowed on school grounds such as laptops, and uniforms.”
The bag from yesterday had a tablet, and a phone only. And their chargers of course.
“Thanks, mate.”
“You have such a cute voice.” he coos.
I think I was just insulted but I offer a forced smile.
“Don’t bother the girl, Nevian.”
Kayla is taller than us both. Nevian looks five seven, brown eyes, shaggy black hair with colored tips, a bit of a slim waist, and a bubbly smile. Kayla is what I expect an alpha female to look like. Tall, big, strong, and with a killer aura.
I was nervous just watching her walk by. I stepped back into my room and shut the door. The welcome package is nice, I guess. Something is just off about the school. The uniform is nothing but matching green sweatpants and a shirt. It came with shoes and a sock. Yep, prison attire.
I left the apartment by seven am with a bag full of the notes that were tagged Monday. What does one even learn in this bloody place?
Kayla and Nevian joined me. Kayla said nothing and even looked at me thoroughly.
He was wearing white, and Kayla had on grey.
Do the colors mean anything?
“Why can’t I feel your wolf?” Nevian asked just as the elevator came to a stop, I didn’t answer him.
I don’t want to deal with it. The condescending stares.
I followed the map that had come with the box, it led me to my first class in a building half an hour away. This time the whole place was packed. You know how colleges are, people, chatting, being excited to do things, to absorb knowledge eh?
That’s not the case here. There were groups of students but they were quiet as hell. That’s when I spot the other vampires. The ones dressed in all black without a single shred of emotions on their faces. Over eight feet tall, looming over like dark clouds.
They were walking back and forth. Eyeing students up and down. I felt freaked out when one turned their heads my way. I immediately headed into the building, and straight to the class that was on my worksheet. I feel like I’m being rushed, but I’m not going to say a word. Not a simple complaint.
Who knows what they might do to me?
I entered the class to see a bunch of people, twenty maybe. They immediately stopped their whispering.
I started to feel self-conscious, so I chose a seat by the window at the end of the class. Far from the rest of them. They kept on staring.
Then a girl asked.
“Since when do they allow humans into this school?”
A guy spoke in response to her question. “s**t, she’s not human. You can see the eyes. What kind of freak are you? You’re wolfless?”
I waited for the insults, but something worse came. They were genuinely disgusted, and afraid. Like staring at me might help them understand why I have no wolf.
Their looks made me feel itchy in my skin. Like I’m some freak. I don’t blame them, I barely understand my own body. The lack of a wolf is just.... weird.
I had one, and then it was just gone.
Thankfully they went back to what they were doing when the teacher arrived but I have a feeling no one will talk to me here, or associate with me because I’m wolfless. I should be happy, but who can celebrate being a freak? A disease people avoid. I try not to let it bother me. But it is tragic that even in this prison-like school, I'm a pariah.
The first class was about the basics, they discussed what we new students should expect from the school and then gave us a digital tour of the entire school.
That took two hours then a bell rang, with an announcement for us to head to the canteen.... I think it’s called a cafeteria here, for breakfast. Brekkie is from ten to eleven. Lunchly from two pm to four. Supper from seven to nine.
I waited until everyone had cleared out before slipping into the hallway, careful to keep my steps light despite the weight of the ankle bracelet. It makes walking clumsy, even showering feels strange with it strapped on. My mind wandered until—thud. I stumbled back, wincing as I rubbed my forehead. I’d walked straight into a door.
A shiver ran down my spine. Was someone watching me?
Across the hall, I locked eyes with a figure—a man, tall and impossibly striking. His long copper-red hair flowed over his shoulders, framing a face of rosy, freckled skin that almost glowed in the dim light. His emerald-green eyes were sharp, intense, and focused entirely on me. With his immaculate suit and a sleek black turtleneck beneath, he looked every bit the darkly refined predator. Silver earrings glinted against his skin: two on his right ear, long and elegant, and a single stud on his left.
There was something undeniably captivating about him, yet his gaze felt as piercing as fangs. His expression was both curious and…hungry. A surge of realization hit me—of course, he looked ready to pounce. He was a vampire. A teacher, I think.
Am I in trouble?
I should go get my food before I starve to death.
He lifts his hand, waving to me. I turn around in an instant and pull out my map to find the cafeteria. His eyes don’t leave me until I’m out of sight. Who was that weird gorgeous man?
God, I really hope that isn’t my doctor. I have alot to do today. I have to sign up for a practice course, eat, and get my first evaluation so the teachers can decide on how to medicate me.... seriously, what kind of college is this?
Everyone here is off their bloody rockers.
I inhaled softly, then continued walking. The cafeteria is full, but so damn quiet. It’s creepy. I folded my map and went to stand in line. Once I was served, I began to find a place to sit, while simultaneously questioning what the hell this was supposed to be.
Tomato soup and toasted bread for brekkie? Where am I?
“Oof!” I hiss as my body slams into something hard, and the tomato soup spills on both of us. I’m sure I slammed into someone this time. Why am I so clumsy today?
The once silent cafeteria turns into something else.
“OH MY GOD, SHE HIT KAITO!”
“EVERYBODY RUN!”
My pulse quickens as people actually run out of the cafeteria. Leaving their food. Even the vampires cooking the food, and serving it bolted. I wiped as much of the soup as I could from my body before staring at the towering form of an Asian male without a collar, a muzzle, or anything that could protect me from being mauled.
His teal eyes darken, and I can see my life flashing before my eyes. I thought I was ready to go but damn... wait a minute. I am. This could be my out.
Two males appear from behind him. One has dark skin with a sexy smirk on his face, and the other.... one of his eyes is a sharp blue and the other is faded. With a scar.
“Hey hey, Kai. Don’t do anything stupid.”
I notice Kaito’s fist clenching, and I hear popping sounds. I take it back, I don’t wanna die like this. I wanna live... for another twenty-four hours. I might change my mind tomorrow, but today is not the bloody day!
