Jane groaned, her skin crawling, her breath coming in short gasps as a winged worm of happiness flirted through her, extending her senses, tickling her mind’s eye and bringing it to tears. She gave a short laugh as a bubble of pink magic drifted up from her lips like a plume of smoke. It had been one of the little tricks she used to do when she’d first discovered her gift in the orphanage—blowing little colored bubbles for the younger children to giggle at. Only then did she realize she was being smothered by a rather heavy blanket. Too heavy for this time of year. She pushed at it, feeling its firm bulk between her legs.
