SEVENTEEN After working from dawn 'til dusk all week, I was ready to go home to bed, but I couldn't miss the doctors' sundowner, where all us shiny-faced interns got to meet the cynical senior doctors we'd be working with for the next year. Having done most of my course on the other side of the country, I'd expected to know no one, but I'd already spotted two familiar faces. If only they hadn't known me as a patient...I crossed my fingers that they wouldn't remember me. Surely they'd both had plenty of patients in the last five years who were far more memorable than I was. "Now this is a lovely surprise."
