Chapter 5For the next week, Bonnie managed to avoid being alone with Jerry. True, he seemed to cooperate with her strategy, for he was not home much. Whether he stayed away to avoid her or to keep clear of further confrontations with Jennifer, she did not know. Maybe he shunned them both.
When he was home, she stuck with Mercedes or Jennifer as tightly as a burr or hid herself away in her temporary room. After all, it was the nicest room she’d ever been able to call hers, even briefly. She’d called the nursing home twice, but the attendants told her Papa was sleeping and probably would not talk anyway.
