Elijah's POV
It has been three days now and the scouts I sent out to find her, found nothing. I knew she
had not left town yet, because I could still sense her. Her presence was close enough to
sense, but still too far from me. I am busy losing my mind. She was in my arms, then she
disappeared, I had Eric sleep in a guest room because my mate's scent was only in his room
and I wanted to be surrounded by it.
Caleb was taking care of all the pack business while I kept on searching for my mate. It is not right that I lay all my responsibilities onto my Beta while he still has his own responsibilities.
My parents had heard about what was going on and have been helping wherever they can. I
really do love them, but my mother has been fussing over me ever since she heard and it is
becoming harder to resist screaming at her.
My father on the other hand has been going through history books and any other valid
werewolf book ever written. My mate had made a command that was followed by three of
my pack members. If she has Alpha blood it would explain why they listened to her, but to
do exactly as she had said did not make sense, there should have been some complaint and
resistance to her command. They followed her command as if she was their Alpha and she
used her Alpha voice on them. There is also the case of her disappearing act that puzzled us all. What she did was unheard of.
Caleb walked into Eric's room. He shook his head when he saw me. He sat down next to me and handed me a brown envelope.
“I found this while doing some research on the people in the town. I got an address for a
Skye Anderson. She is the closest female in this town that fits the description you, Eric and
Zane gave me. "
My wolf was happy, out mate was found. I got up from bed and took a look at the folder.
There next to a full description of my mate and where she works was a picture of her
smiling. I frowned when I saw the picture. The smile looked forced and her eyes were not
filled with anything, they were blank. The other thing that bothered me was the fact that
she has not been here long.
"Elijah, there is something else you should know." Caleb said, whatever it was he wanted to
tell me unsettled him.
"What is it?" For a moment I thought something bad happened to my mate.
"I have done some research and Skye Anderson does not exist. I don't know how she managed to get a job at the newspaper; they do checks on every one of their staff members. They are also all human." Caleb said and shrugged his shoulders as if to brush something off as though it were no big deal. "Your mate is something special. I hope you can convince her to come back with you."
I was forced to take a shower, just to please my mother. Okay, so I might have missed a couple of much needed meals and missed a shower or two. I know that it is not right, but no one can blame me. I found my mate and she disappeared right before my eyes.
Caleb and I drove to the apartment that Skye lived in. I was angry when I saw where she was
living. It was no place for my mate to stay. I was struggling to contain my wolf's excitement.
My mate was near, but the closer I got the more I felt something was wrong, something that I could not explain.
We found my mate's apartment and when we opened the door, the sight that greeted us scared me. Skye was on the floor in the same dress she wore three days ago. I got to her side and picked her up. She was weak, I could feel that much. Her black hair was limp and her eyes were dark.
I carried her to the car and sat in the backseat with her on my lap. I should have found her earlier; it makes sense that the scouts we sent out were unable to find her. Her scent is so faint I could barely smell it.
I wanted to cry, I do not know why she is so weak. It scares me, if anything happens to her I
would lose myself and the pack will suffer.
"Caleb, call the pack doctor and have him on stand-by for when we get back." I told him as I
cradled my mate in my arms.
"Will do, she will be okay. I promise you, Elijah." Caleb said and for the remainder of the
drive he was silent.
Two hours later, Skye was on my bed in one of my t-shirts. I sent Caleb back to her
apartment to pick up her belongings.
The doctor said she was suffering from severe exhaustion. It is a strange case and he has
managed to get her to drink some water and take some medication to help her. There was
not much he could do to help her. It all depends on Skye now.
My father was still busy with his research hoping that there was something he could find
that would explain everything to us.
I got into bed next to Skye and wrapped my arm around her waist. It made me happy to
know that I was so close to my mate and sad to know that there is nothing I can do for her.
I closed my eyes and fell asleep, thinking only of my mate.
A woman appeared to me, she smiled sadly at me. "I do believe the fates have chosen well.
You will be a good mate for my daughter."
"What are you talking about?" I tried to remain in control of myself, but I felt as though I wanted to bow down to the woman in front of me.
"I am your mate's mother. I am also the moon goddess, Selene." She said. "We do not have a lot of time. I need to tell you a story of my past and what fate has deemed as your destiny."
She touched my forehead with her warm fingertips and I saw images around me playing out
as though I was in a 4D movie.
I could hear her voice in the background. "Years ago I came down to Earth as I do every thousand years. I met a man, he was no werewolf, nor was he human. I fell in love with him and eight months later I gave birth to your mate. The longer I stayed on Earth the weaker I became. He came to me and told me that I must go back to where I belong. He warned me of the danger I would be in if I stayed longer. I did as he said and left my daughter in his care, for four years he took care of her, then one day the hunters came. There were werewolves with them. They found a way to bind his powers and eventually kill him. I gave my daughter her wolf then and had them escape. For years she has been running and now it is time for her to stop. "
The images faded away. I saw the images of my mate as a child running from one place to the next. She educated herself and I saw what she did to the people that killed her roommate, the only person she ever considered a friend.
"Elijah, Skye was named Skylar at birth. Her father was a powerful man. When the hunter's killed him they thought they would be able to harvest his powers. They did not know about our daughter and when they did figure it out it was too late, Skye had already left. They are still after her and the power that she has can destroy them, but it will come at a cost. The kind of power she has is good and bad. Her father was a good man, but in order to keep all the negative power, the destructive magic out of the earth. He had to bind it to himself. He never used magic unless there was no other way. There will come a day that she will need you more than anything in the world, but you will have to make a choice that will decide her fate. I ask you to choose wisely. Save your mate or save your pack, although the ultimate choice will be hers to make." She stopped talking for a moment and looked as though she was about to cry.
Her smile was not forced, when she smiled at me. It was one of hope. “There is more you should know, a powerful Alpha is working with the hunters. They think my daughter is weak and is just a vessel holding all of that power. They think of her as the prey. The Alpha wants to mate with my daughter once the power has been harvested. He wants her as his trophy. To tell you any more than what I have already told you would tip the balance and the forces of nature will be against you."
It was so much to take in and I remembered the state that Skye is in. "What is wrong with her now?"
"Her body is not used to teleporting and that stunt she pulled could have killed her. It would have killed her if she was not also a werewolf. My power flows through her, just as her father's does. She needed to be prepared for what she had done, but with no guidance it will be impossible. She will be fine and will wake up in the morning."
I thanked her and felt something spark a fire in my heart.
"Alpha Elijah Kent, please take care of my daughter."
With that she disappeared and I plundered into darkness. I woke up and saw that Skye was
still in my arms and she looked better. With everything that I found out today, there is no
way I would ever let her go. With that thought in mind I fell asleep again and smiled. My
mate was where she belonged.
