He looked at the top of Marina’s head for a long moment, then walked over to Natasha.
“Do you think that your mother gave us her ‘best assistance at all times’, Natalya?”
“Yes, Sir, I am sure that she did… she has always been devoted to the Party and the Motherland”, she replied trying to compensate for some of the problems she had unwittingly brought down on her mother’s head.
“Well, I’m not so sure, but perhaps you’re right. After all, she was the one who told us where we could find you. Not many mothers would do that to their own daughters for their country, would they, Natalya? It must say something about the kind of woman she is… the kind of mother she is”.
