THE DISTANCE BETWEEN US

CHAPTER 8

Ann turned over on the bed as She was awaken by Sophie's mumbles and conversation with someone on the phone. My eyes were still closed but I could hear a bit of the conversation as my subconscious was still working. She hadn't meant to eaves drop on the conversation she was having. It sounded quit serious and She could hear her pacing back and forth in the room.

"This is the fourth time I am sending money this week to you guys, it's not even the end of the week yet. I woke so hard every day. Plus having to complete a degree and all momma does is buy drugs and alcohol with it laying around all day doing nothing!!! And now you have to call me again for school stuff after all these" Sophie said as she continued pacing back and forth angrily, one could easily tell she wasn't okay, her eyes seemed tired, she was stressed and had just returned from a shift at the club she worked as a stripper. She sat on the bed exhausted as she scrolled through her phone with her hands rubbing the back of her head. She was confused and didn't know what to do. She still remembered how things used to be and how life had been perfect for her in the past. She wished she could go back in time, she wished she could change the cause of everything that was happening in there home now. It was affecting her badly and even worse for her little sister who had just started high school. She had tried everything but it wasn't working.

Ann opened her eyes few minutes after Ann ended the conversation with her sister. She had pretended not to have heard a thing because of how personal it had sounded to her.

"Good morning" Ann said as she stood from her bed to ho into the bathroom. "Morning" Sophie had responded but hadn't looked up from what she had been doing on her phone. It seemed serious. Ann decided to let her be for sometime, she went into the bathroom to have her bath. It was a weekend today and she had to help Mike finish the wedding dress they started working on. They were almost done anyways so she had the whole day to herself after that.

Ann came out from the bathroom and realized Sophie had been in the same position she had left her in before going into the bathroom. Ann sat at the edge of her bed still in her towel, she looked in Sophie's direction as she applied her face products gently on her face.

"So, you know why Mike is so not interested in Love?" Ann suddenly inquired, she had wanted something to engage Sophie in and it seemed like the talk about Mike was a good one because she had immediately dropped her phone to the side and was ready to talk.

"He told you that?" She asked teasingly

"Yeah, he did, told me a couple of other stuffs too. He really doesn't like love and I am sure he probably hasn't fallen in love before" Ann explained as she stood to pick up her clothes from the wardrobe.

"He actually has"

"Really" Ann asked as she immediately turned to face Sophie

"Yeah"

"So, what happened" Ann asked curiously

"I don't know if he would really want me to tell you this though" Sophie hesitated.

"Just say it already" Ann asked really interested. She didn't understand why she was interested but she was.

"She passed" Sophie suddenly said and ann immediately felt remorse. Never knew he had gone through such.

"How, what happened to her" Ann asked curiously

"She was Sick and there was nothing that could be done. After she passed, he hadn't really dated anyone since then. He prefers to be more of a player now, really isn't interested in any relationship or stuff. I just really feel he hasn't moved on from what happened and haven't had closure from it" Sophie explained

"They were supposed to get married the year she passed, he had bought a ring and all and then she fell sick" She continued.

"Ohh, that's sad"

"How many years has it been now" Sophie asked

"Three years now"

"That's quit sometime ti be stuck in memories of the past" Ann said.

"What was her name" Ann asked

"Rina" Sophie answered

"He really doesn't even like to here her name" she added.

"He really hasn't moved on then" Ann said as she puts on her clothes.

There was a knock at the door almost immediately.

"Who is there" Ann asked

"Delivery"

Ann opened the door, it was a package delivery.

"Are you Miss Ann" the man asked

"Yes please" Ann answered and the delivery man gave her to sign a paper to show evidence of collection.

There was a bouquet of flowers with him, a box of chocolate and a gift box containing other things. She received it then closed the door wondering who it could have been from.

"Do you have a secret admirer already" Sophie teased and Ann just smiled. She was still wondering who it could be for then she say a little note attached to it.

" I don’t cry because we’ve been separated by distance, and for a matter of years. Why? Because for as long as we share the same sky and breathe the same air, we’re still together. I love you still everyday, every minute and every second. I can't wait for us to be together again"

Ann blushed as she read the note, she hadn't expected it to be from him but she was beyond grateful and surprised.

She opened the gift box and it was filled with pictures of both of them together and like an album of memories with the first page with a picture they had taken at the airport the day she had left. Ann was so happy about loved how much Tony loves her. She was grateful they chose to do this together and she loved being with him.
