"This has been the most incredible week!" Lisa admitted. It was true; it had been beyond amazing. William and Emily seemed content with taking the boat out. Lisa had to admit that Will was a great sailor and was sure Emily was safe.
Lisa’s days had been filled with horse rides, boat trips, walks, star-gazing, swimming, and, of course, love-making. Lisa’s heart began beating faster when she remembered how Matt had taken her out last night for a walk. When they got to a secluded spot, Matt undressed her, making sure he left her vest top on and had s*x with her on the beach. They had been on the shoreline, and Matt had timed each thrust to coincide with the waves crashing on the shore. The water had seemed to amplify the sparks of pleasure, and Lisa had never come so hard in her life.
It was when Matt collapsed on her, fully spent, that he had whispered four words that had made her heart skip a couple of beats for a second: "I love you, Lisa."
Lisa had replied before thinking: "I love you too." She cursed herself for being so weak and sentimental. She, a strong, independent woman in love? The notion was ridiculous to her, yet if she was honest with herself, she was. She was irreconcilably in love with Matt, even if it was doomed.
"Dinner in 20 minutes!" Matt announced this happily as he turned the BBQ meat lovingly on the Beach BBQ.
"The BBQ King has spoken!" Lisa said as she was pulled from her thoughts. She got up and went over to him, stealing a piece of pepper from the salad.
"Well, I am glad that you have finally admitted that I am a king!
Yeah, king of the BBQ, not the bedroom darling! " Lisa retorted.
"I didn’t hear any complaints last night or this morning," Matt replied. Lisa popped a r****h in his mouth to keep him quiet, Matt winked.
"Come on, guys, we are right here!" William moaned.
"Yes, right here on my island. So, stop your moaning and get me another beer! " Matt ordered. Will got up to get him a beer, whilst Lisa took off her sarong. She had a bathing suit underneath, and Matt had made sure it was high-backed for her. "I'm going into the sea for a quick swim. Are you coming, Emily? "
Lisa smiled as Emily shook her head. Emily was never far from Will. They were truly besotted with each other. Lisa walked out into the water for a bit before diving in and swimming into the blue ocean.
"Emily, calm down. She has only been gone for 15 minutes, and I am sure she is fine!" Will said, making Matt look over. Emily had a worried look on her face and was signing frantically.
"What is she saying?" Matt asked.
"That she can’t see Lisa and is worried. I ... sure that.. " Will was saying, but Matt's attention was taken up by Emily running and diving into the sea. Emily swam around and kept diving underwater, trying to find Lisa.
"s**t!" Matt said as he quickly stripped off. One thing he knew: if Emily was worried, then there was something wrong. He noticed Will was doing the same.
Matt dived into the water and looked around. He broke the surface and started to call out her name. "You two go that way, I will search this end of the bay," Matt ordered. Will and Emily nodded before swimming off. Matt began to swim to the far side, diving to look for her. He had almost given up hope when he heard a shout from Will. When Matt turned, he saw Lisa on her back being pulled to shore by Will. Matt panicked when she saw her eyes were closed and she wasn’t moving.
Matt felt adrenaline surge through him as he swam to shore as fast as he could. He ran over to where Lisa was, and he could see how pale she was becoming."Lisa? Lisa? Come on, wake up. " Matt shouted as he tapped each side of her face.
Lisa moaned "bite" before her eyes rolled in the back of her head before she slipped into unconsciousness. Matt kept trying to wake her up again. Lisa’s breathing suddenly became uneven, like she was fighting for every breath.
"Bite?" Will repeated. He suddenly felt a tap, and Emily pointed to Lisa’s ankle. She made a sign for the sea snake and then took off her hairband, and tied it below Lisa’s knee. Will saw a bite on Lisa and understood what had happened.
"Matt, Lisa’s been bitten by a sea snake. She must have swum too close to a nest. Do you have any anti-venom for the local snake species here? " Will ask.
"Sea snake? But they are extremely venomous, much more so than cobras. " "Matt said as he looked down at Lisa. Blood was dripping from her nose. His mind was normally crystal clear in high-pressured situations. In fact, he normally took the lead, but as he looked down at Lisa, his heart filled with fear. He could lose her...
"Matt, focus. Anit venom? Where is it? " Will shouted. Matt forced his mind to focus. No, he wasn’t going to lose her like this. They were growing old together. That was their destiny and nothing was going to stop that. He picked Lisa up quickly and ran to the house.
As soon as he got there, he began to bark orders in Portuguese. He laid Lisa down on the ground, and he noticed her lips going blue. "Hurry up, for God’s sake!" Matt roared, and the housekeeper came running in with another man who was the island’s doctor. The doctor quickly examined her and told the housekeeper exactly what he needed from his home, as Emily and Will came in. Emily had been crying and was hugging Will. The doctor turned to Matt and said in English, "Sir, as you probably guessed, she has been bitten by a sea snake." Unfortunately, it is most likely been done by the Hook-Nosed Sea Snake Bite. And there was significant envenomation. The young lady seems to have a particularly nasty reaction. However, we are lucky because the local hospital on the next island does have anti-venom. We need to get her there as soon as possible. "
"Is she going to be alright?" Matt asked urgently.
"As long as we can prevent respiratory arrest, there is a good chance she will fully recover."
The housekeeper came back with a couple of men who were carrying equipment. The doctor quickly got to work, placing an oxygen mask on Lisa.
Hold on, Amoreco. Just hang on. " Matt whispered as he stroked her hair.
