Chapter 22: Parting

"Did he see?" Lisa asked quickly.
Lisa replied, "No, he has not seen your back, Lisa." No one has. "
Lisa was relaxing. When a scared-looking doctor came in, followed by Matt, "Well, don’t just stand there, do something!" He snapped with an unusually bad temper. It was then that Lisa saw that his normally relaxed face was creased with concern.
"See what I mean?" Signed, Emily
Lisa’s instinct was to comfort him. "Matt, I am OK." She said with a weak smile as she pulled herself up. It was then her nerves seemed to kick and she suppressed a groan of pain.
Matt rushed forward, almost barging the doctor out of the way. "Amoreco! You should not be moving! " Matt scolded as he pushed her gently back down.
"Matt, I am..."
"If you say I am fine one more time, I swear to God, amoreco! You are not fine. You had a bad reaction to sea snake poison and have been unconscious for four days. So, for once, you are going to lie down, relax, and let the doctor do his goddamn job. Do you understand me, Amoreco? " Matt ordered. It had been the four longest days of his life. He had barely slept a few hours and had to eat in the room. Every time he closed his eyes, he saw the image of Lisa, unconscious and in pain. It was his job to protect her, to safeguard his amoreco and future queen. He had almost lost her through a careless mistake. something that he was not going to repeat.
Everything was ready; the best hospital in London was on standby. She just needed to be safe enough to travel. Lisa put a hand on his arm, breaking him away from his thoughts.
"Trust me, I've been through worse. Besides, I am hardy when it comes to poisons. " Lisa murmured, as she closed her eyes tiredly.
"Hard when it comes to poisons? What are you talking about? " Matt asked.
"Oh, no...I was bitten by lots of things as a child... being outside... free, "Lisa murmured before falling asleep.
"Is she OK? I want an update now! " Matt demanded impatiently.
"Yes, and what she said is true, strangely." The doctor said as he started doing his checks.
"What do you mean?"
"The snake injected a lot of poison into her, more than I have ever seen. In a normal person, it would have caused respiratory arrest almost immediately. " The doctor explained.
"So she has got a tolerance to poisons?"
"Yes and no. She still had a bad reaction, but she has shown incredible resilience. If she had been bitten by anything else, the chances are she would have had a very mild reaction. "
"So, is she going to be OK?"
"Well, all her signs are good and strong. She is recovering remarkably quickly. " The doctor said, and he took another blood sample. Lisa moaned softly in protest, and Matt gently stroked her hair.
"Shh Amoreco, I promise I won’t let anyone hurt you," Matt said. Lisa settled and Matt moved her hand away. He was surprised when Lisa grabbed it and held it on her chest. "Don’t go." She murmured.
"Never," Matt said as he sat down in a chair.
Two weeks later, London
"I am sorry I ruined our holiday," Lisa said, at the front door of her home. It had been a long couple of weeks, and she was exhausted. When she next came to, she was surprised to find herself back in a private hospital in London. The second surprise was when Alannah and Kurt visited.
"We were so worried when we heard!" Alannah said.
"Please let us know if we can do anything, anything at all," Kurt said genuinely.
Lisa smiled and said, "Thank you; you are very kind."
Lisa seemed to have repeated this phrase a thousand times over the last few weeks. She could not remember all the names of the doctors and nurses she saw. She was very grateful, but it was good to be home.
"Lisa, you didn’t ruin the holiday. Apart from the snake bite, it was the best holiday I ever had. " Matt said, breaking Lisa from her thoughts.
"The best? I doubt that! " Lisa said as she casually straightened his collar.
"Amoreco, cast your doubts aside. That time will always be in my memory as the first time you said you loved me. "
"Matt .." Lisa said blushing.
"No, you can’t take it back now! That is not how it works. You love me and I love you. That, my amoreco, is the most wondrous thing. "
"Who knew you were such a romantic? " Lisa teased as she found her way into Matt’s arms. She laid her head on his chest, listening to his heartbeat.
"I am sorry I have to leave. If I had the choice, I would stay here. "
"I know you would," Lisa said, her voice breaking with emotion. Matt placed his hand on the back of her head, stroking her hair.
"When I get back, I will never leave your side again," Matt swore.
"I know and I will be here waiting for you."
"You will?" Matt asked seriously.
"Forever! I love you, Matt. " Lisa said, nodding her head.
She heard Matt chuckle and say, "I would be a fool to leave anywhere near that long." "I'll only be here for a couple of weeks."
"Good!" Lisa said firmly, blinking her tears away. She did not want it to make it harder for him to leave. Lisa could tell he was on edge ever since he got a phone call yesterday.
A car pulled up and an apologetic-looking Simon appeared through an open window. "I am sorry, boss, but we have to go."
Matt sighed and closed his eyes. Every cell in his body wanted to stay by her side. He had waited so long to find her, to find his soulmate. Now he had to leave her because his father wanted something. He opened his eyes when he felt Lisa push him away.
Go on, you silly devil! What are a few weeks, hey? We are not love-sick teenagers who will die from a broken heart! "
Matt smiled and said, "The only thing right is that statement, and that is, we are not teenagers."
"Oh, come here!" Lisa said as she kissed him. Now, go and make sure that you are safe. The sooner you leave, the sooner you will be back! "
Matt nodded and walked down the steps. He turned and said, "Keep your phone close, I will ring you when I land."
"Yes, now go! The plane will leave without you! " Lisa said, waving.
Matt nodded and got into the car. "I love you, Lisa."
"And I love you!" Lisa whispered as she watched the car drive away.
"I am sorry, Boss. But like you say, it will only be for a few weeks. Besides, she will be safe. Kurt and Alannah say they will personally look after her till you get back. There is no way that the Roman guy will be able to come near her! " Simon said.
"I appreciate you trying to cheer me up, Simon. I do."
"But?"
"But I know Lisa will be safe. What I don’t know is why my father has urgently called me back, " Matt said grimly.
"You think he is up to his old tricks?"
"That old devil? Always! " Matt said. He just hoped whatever his father planned, did not take him away from Lisa for too long.
