Lisa saw the light for the doorbell go off as she was cooking in the kitchen. On weekends, she tried to do a lot of batch cooking. It helped curb the temptation of takeout during the week. She was in the middle of adding tomatoes to a Bolognese sauce when the light flashed.
"I wonder who that is," Lisa muttered to herself as she made her way to the door. When she opened it, there was a man dressed in a black suit with several bags and a bunch of flowers on her doorstep. " I am sorry, I think you have the wrong address. I certainly didn’t order anything from Channel, Prada, or whatever you have got there. "
"You are Lisa Mitchell, are you not?" The man asked.
"Depends on who is asking," Lisa said, folding her arms, whilst her eyes narrowed. She did not like uninvited guests on her doorstep.
"I am under strict instructions from the boss to give you these," the man said.
"And who is your boss?" Lisa asked.
"Matteo Maldonado is not a man that likes to be disappointed." The man said, looking nervous.
"Huh, well tell Matt that I will take the flowers, as I am a sucker for daffodils, as he knows. But, I have enough clothes to wear. Thank you. "
"Madam, please. He brought these as gifts, and after the last date, where... The man suddenly stopped himself.
"No, please continue. Where I what? " Lisa asked, glaring.
"Where….where.." the man stuttered. He was not used to this at all. Women normally took the gifts his boss sent without question and sometimes even tipped him. This one, on the other hand... she appeared almost offended.
"Where I embarrassed him," Lisa said, helpfully.
"You have to understand that a man in his position has certain standards for his women," The man said firmly.
"His women? How many women does your boss have? " Lisa suddenly asked. The man looked at the ground, not sure how to answer. "You know what? I don’t want to know. " Lisa said as she smiled, taking the bags. Her face suddenly dropped as she began to throw the bags down the steps. "Tell your boss that I am not one of his women who can be brought. I am so sorry I did not meet your standards, but if you ever darken my door again, I will kick your arse! "Lisa said calmly.
"Like you could take me on, you crazy woman!" The man sneered. Lisa did not know what came over her, but in one swift move, she had the delivery man pinned to a wall, with her foot crushing his windpipe. Fear flooded the man’s eyes.
"You would do well to heed my words. You have disrespected me twice in the last few minutes. This is very unwise, as I am not somebody you want to cross. If I ever see you again, I will f*****g kill you. Do you understand? " Lisa snarled, her eyes hard as stone. There was no answer, so she pressed harder on his windpipe with her foot. "I said, do you understand?"
"Ye…yes!" The delivery man stuttered.
"Yes, what?" Lisa said through gritted teeth.
"Yes, Miss Mitchell!" The man said.
"Good boy, now go back to your master," Lisa said as she released him and he ran down the stairs.
"Is everything OK?" William asked, with a shocked look on his face. He was standing at the bottom of the stairs with Emily. The delivery man quickly rushed past them.
"Oh nothing, I am just finding out who someone really is," Lisa said with a smile.
"Please tell me that was not Matt’s man!" William moaned.
Lisa’s eyes narrowed and she said, "So what if it is Mr Collins? Unless there is something you would like to share with the group. "
"Just he is not a man to cross. That is what I have heard anyway! " William said quickly.
Matt was sitting in Kurt’s office looking at the London skyline.
"That is a big smile there!" Kurt said as he handed his friend a cup of coffee.
"Well, I am seeing Lisa tonight, and she should get the gifts I sent her. I hope she liked them. " Matt said
"I am sure she did. What woman does not like gifts? " James, Kurt’s second in command, said. Matt was about to say something when his phone buzzed. It was a text from Lisa. Well, a voice note. Thinking it was going to be something pleasant, he played it out loud.
"Mr Matteo Maldonado, I am sorry that I do not reach the high standards that are required to be one of your many, many, women. But if you think you can buy me like that, you are dead wrong! Needless to say, our date tonight is cancelled. But I suppose you can replace me with one of your other whores, so it does not matter. And if you send that arsehole around again, I will beat the s**t out of him! "
"Wow, she is definitely a force of nature!" Kurt said, trying to break the awkward silence that followed the meeting.
"I don’t have any other women! What is Lisa talking about? How could she think I was trying to buy her? " Matt was enraged.
"I am sure it was just a misunderstanding, Matt," Kurt said, seeing his friend get up. Just then, there was a knock at the door and the man who was tasked with delivering the gifts came in with Simon.
"Boss, we ran into a slight issue," Simon said diplomatically. He had noticed how Matt had acted differently with this woman and was not sure how this was going to go down.
"I want a full report, now!" Matt snapped as he strode over to the delivery man, clearly angry already.
"He went to Miss Mitchell’s house .." Simon began to explain.
"No, I want him to give me the report!" Matt snapped, glaring at the man.
"I…I.." The delivery man said, shaking.
"Yes?" Matt asked.
The man suddenly fell to his knees and said, "Forgive me, Boss, I did as directed and went to the woman’s house as directed. I tried to give her the gifts, but she didn’t want them. Well, apart from the flowers. "
"And what did you say when she refused them?" Matt demanded.
"I only said that you have certain standards for your women and, after your last date, that perhaps she should consider taking the gifts."
"And?" Matt said, through gritted teeth.
"She went crazy, boss! She got upset, wanting to know how many women you had, and then said, she would beat my arse if I ever came back."
"So why is there a bruise on your throat?" Matt said.
"Please, boss!" The delivery man begged.
"If you hurt her, I swear you won’t see another sunrise. Tell me what happened and don’t you dare even think about lying to me! " Matt roared, making everyone jump. He was renowned for being even-tempered, especially for a gang boss.
"I…..I called her crazy and she pinned me against the wall with her foot. " The delivery man stuttered.
"Her foot?" Kurt asked.
"Yes, like one of those prize underground fighters Queen Alannah was involved in!" The delivery man explained.
"Interesting," Kurt said thoughtfully.
"So, let me get this straight. Your job was to deliver some gifts and you ended up calling her crazy and giving her the impression that I had multiple women! "
"Please Boss, please don’t kill me!" The delivery man begged.
"Oh, I am not going to kill you. I have something far worse in mind."
"Boss?" The delivery man asked fearfully.
"Yes, you are coming with me to apologise to her, and you had better pray she will forgive you. Because if not... " Matt warned.
"
