Dillon
How the hell had it gone so wrong so quickly. One minute they were making out… hard. The heat between her legs drawing him in and the next she was storming off , stating she wanted to be alone.
Women.
They were a weird species.
“Messed it up already huh?”
I groaned into my wine. I didn’t need to turn to know it was Sebastian in the doorway. “f**k off will you, I want to be alone”
His chuckle was knowing. “ I can always go and keep Faith company”
That got my attention. I wouldn’t even put it past him. He would go to her and try and seduce her even though it was my week with her not his. “Stay the hell away from her”
He laughed loudly. “So protective so soon” He finally came into view. Folding his frame onto the chair opposite and spearing me with his eyes. “Anyone would think you really care for her”
I weighed up his words for a second. And then shrugged. “She’s a beautiful girl”
“They are always beautiful Dillon, always. It’s their blood.” He reaches for the decanter , pouring himself a glass that threatened to spill out over the white table cloth. “You actually like her”
“She’s not the same as the other ones. She isn’t. She’s…”
“I knew you would feel it. Me and Hunter were discussing it before you kidnapped her. How she is different. How she is…”
I frowned. I didn’t like the idea of them talking about her. Of actually liking her. “Special” I finished for him.
“You think I’m special?” Faiths voice came from the door way, she sounded shocked.
Sebastian laughed.
“Dillon?”
“We all think that Faith, you are so very special to all of us” Sebastian was trying to take over the conversation, desperate to get her to look at him but her eyes were on mine. Wide And questioning.
“Because you need me to rule all of the others?” Her words were mocking.
“No because you are beautiful and intelligent and unbelievably strong”
Damn Sebastian and his smooth charm.
I swallowed hard. Was I jealous? It was a new feeling. And I didn’t like it. How the hell did Declan function if this was what was going through his brain constantly. It was a crippling feeling.
“Can I talk to you” Her eyes slid away from my face but I knew she was talking to me. “Alone”
I nodded.
“That’s my cue to leave them” Sebastian made short work of crossing the flagstones to her and I had to grit my teeth to stop myself punching him as he captured her hand. Bringing it to his lips. “I can not wait to spend my week with you Faith” His eyes shone as his lips brushed over her knuckles. “Don’t go falling in love with anyone until I have had my chance”
Faith blinked back in surprise. “I’m not falling in love with anyone Sebastian” Her voice was incredulous. “I’m doing this so I can go home”
He nodded but the smile on his face said he didn’t believe a word she was saying. “You will fall in love with me before this is all over”
Exasperated Faith shook her head. “If you will excuse us?” Her dismissal was clear and I couldn’t help but chuckle. She was incredible.
“Sorry if I offended you earlier Faith, I did not mean to”
“I know” She settled herself into the chair Sebastian had just vacated. “This is all just a shock. I shouldn’t have run away just because I didn’t like what you were saying”
“But I should never have said it. I did not want to cause you more pain. Not now and not ever” and that was the truth of the matter.
“I don’t … Dillon I don’t like being alone here. I am frightened” Her voice was so small. And it hit me then. She was afraid. She needed a friend. She was in a new place, a strange and scary place and she had come to be for comfort. It made my chest swell with pride.
She hadn’t gone to any one else.
She had come to me.
“You don’t want to be alone?”
She shook her head. “I don’t.. I can’t sleep. I can’t even relax in that room alone”
“You would like me to sleep in your bed again?” I crossed my fingers under the table. Please, please say yes.
“Please, I know I shouldn’t ask you this but I …” Her voice waivered.
“You can ask me anything, if you want me to hold you all night so you can sleep and not be afraid then I will” pulling myself to my feet I held out a hand to her. “I don’t mind”
“You don’t?”
I laughed “of xourse not , you will need to get your rest for tomorrow”
“What happens tomorrow?”
“I take you on a little adventure” I gave her a wink as I led her from the room. She hadn’t gone to any of the others for comfort she had come to me.
To me.
There was hope for me yet.
