PROLOGUE
It was midnight when superior Magdalene saw the heavy pouring of the rain outside the window of the convent. She was a little bit worried about the thundering, shaking in the ground and the bolts of lightning in the sky might frighten the children who were sleeping in their rooms. Her attention then went to the door when one of the sisters came in haste towards her direction.
"Mother superior, someone's outside. I-I am not sure if I will receive them. They have guns." she stuttered while bowing.
Magdalene's eyes went to the merciless downpour of the water before striding outside the room towards the main entrance of the convent.
When she arrived at the door, two sisters were already hovering on the closed door while muttering something in low voices while they made the sign of the cross. Their hands clasping hard either in earnest prayer or in pure horror for whatever was behind the closed door.
"Open the door," Magdalene ordered.
The two sisters noticing her exclaimed, "But mother superior, they have guns! They might hurt our children here!"
"I will take care of it," Magdalene stood on her ground while maintaining her grace even after the door was opened by the sisters. Waters from the rain immediately came a little inside the entrance but it wasn't enough to faze Magdalene nor the two heavily armed men outside the door. There was no recognition in her eyes but it was as if she knew those men when she let them in. The tiled floor of the convent wasn't spared of the dripping waters from the wet boots when the men entered in.
"Leave us," Magdalene gestured to the sisters and they immediately heeded the order.
"Black Thorns," one man said.
Magdalene wandered her eyes to the two men before she responded in low voice, "Black Rose...at your service."
The men didn't wait a single second before calling somebody on their radio.
Not a while, someone came inside the convent with a little girl.
"The clan is in chaos right now,"
Magdalene furrowed at them before she spoke in a subdued tone. "Then why are you here?"
"The clan's boss believed she will be safe here,"
Magdalene then looked at the little girl who wore blankness on her expression."I will take her-,"
"Is my brother dead?" the little girl inquired in a watery voice before she looked up to the two men. Masta, one of the men who brought the little girl, crouched down and reached her hair.
"We haven't received any news yet. I'm sure boss will keep them in line,"
"How about Jin?"
Masta looked down the floor then to her little red shoes before answering in a low voice that even the little girl didn't hear it.
"Let me call him," she negotiated in a brave voice.
"His family won't allow it,"
"Then, let me call somebody before you...give my med." she held her little palm to him.
Cain looked up to his companion. Ted, who nodded to her last request.
Having the phone in her hand, she ran not far from the people but enough to not hear her. She dialed a number which the other person answered in one ring.
"Hello," she greeted in a small voice not even realizing that she clasped hard on the pendant inside her pocket.
"Where are you?" asked someone on the other line.
"Nabi, how is Jin?"
"I'm in the hospital with him. He got injured while escaping from the bad guys. I thought you're dead! No one will confirm your whereabouts with me. The adults are giving me headaches. Come back here-"
The rest of Nabi's sentence was cut off when someone interjected their conversation.
"Kitten?"
"Jin? Are you alright?" her tears flooded her cheeks at the desperate voice from the other line.
"Where are you? Please tell me."
"Nabi said you're hurt, Jin. Please don't look for me. They said it's for my own safety. There are so many bad guys who want to hurt me, Jin. I'm scared right now."
Jin, a nine-year-old boy, couldn't help himself but let a cry of frustration from the other line.
"They can't take you away from me. I'll find you. I'll protect you. I'll make the bad guys go. Just please... please tell me where you are." he pleaded.
Sicily would like to believe in him as she always did. However, she won't want him to be in danger like her and her brother. "Forget about me, Jin. Goodbye."
"No-"
However, the phone slid down to the floor before the girl felt a stinging sensation on her shoulder. She saw Cain withdrawing a syringe planted unceremoniously to her flesh after emptying its content.
"I'm sorry. It's time."
The little girl felt herself losing her consciousness and collapsed to the floor. Her eyes fled to the phone. The call wasn't ended but she can't hear anything from it. However, if she did, her spine might grow cold at the fervent promise of someone-the one she can't get away with.
